Our 7/23/13 Purchase: The DDR Max 2 Machine from Crystal Palace (Rancho)

Sean and I were searching eBay recently when we came across a Dance Dance Revolution Max 2 machine (Japanese cabinet) with memory card slots for $1,000 located in Las Vegas, NV! The listing said the monitor wasn't working but for $1,000 and considering the machine was located in the same city as us (so we wouldn't have to pay much to transport it) it was still totally worth it! I messaged the seller, Rick, to let him know we were interested in purchasing the machine, ask whether he'd meet with us to let us take a look at it beforehand, and ask if he knew which former DDR machine location it'd been removed from. He told us it'd come from:

Crystal Palace Skating Center
3901 N Rancho Dr
Las Vegas, NV 89130
(702) 645-4892

He said they wouldn't be replacing it with any other dance games at that location but that the DDR Max 2 at Crystal Palace on Boulder Highway, where Sean and I had been to skate and see their machine a few months prior, still had theirs for now. Crazy. Sean had never been to Crystal Palace on Rancho before and I think I'd only been once so for the past few months we'd been planning to visit and play DDR there. Now we were buying their machine!

So we made our arrangements and visited the machine over the weekend. It was being kept in a storage unit at Storage Depot.

Storage Depot
6240 S Rainbow Blvd
Las Vegas
(702) 876-2730

We didn't/couldn't plug it in to test it or anything but everything looked good enough to justify us paying $1,000 for it. We still needed a way to move it though. Obviously, we didn't want to spend money renting a moving truck until we'd checked out the machine so we made plans to return to pick it up on Tuesday. Being eBay sellers ourselves, we were aware that the percentages they charge when you sell an item really add up cost-wise on large transactions so we asked Rick how he preferred to be paid. He said we could just pay him $950 cash instead since it would save everyone on expenses and transaction security wouldn't be much of an issue with an in-person exchange.
Rick and his Storage Depot storage unit with DDR Max 2 inside:
I'd already researched truck sizes, rental costs, rental location proximity to our house and Storage Depot, taxes, discounts, mileage fees, etc. It didn't take long since I'd done it several times before to pick up many of the other 8 arcade machines at our house - DDR Extreme, DDR Max 2/5th (we switch it out), ITG 2 (dedicab), DDR Solo 2000, TechnoMotion: The 2nd Dance Floor, PIU Extra Mix, Dance Maniax 2nd Mix, and Beatmania 4th Mix - but it was my 1st locally purchased machine so the pros and cons of each rental company's costs made my choice a bit different this time around. This time, Penske was the way to go! With a daily rental fee of $31 for a 12' truck, a convenient location between our house and Storage Depot, and a mileage cost of about $0.39 per mile, our total cost - including gas - wasn't much more than $50!

Holiday Royale Suites (Penske rental location)
4505 Paradise Rd.
Las Vegas, NV 89169

Tuesday came around and Sean and I got our Penske rental. Danny met us at Storage Depot to help us load up the machine and Rick pulled up a few minutes after the rest of us to let us in, collect his $950, and let us out of the gate again. We'd each loaded DDR and other machines for transport plenty of times so it didn't take us long at all to get this one loaded up, strap it in, drive it home, and move it into our garage where it'd keep 4 of our other machines company, at least til we fixed the monitor and decided whether to resell it for a profit (since we already have 3 other DDR machines) or keep it and sell one of our others instead. Anyone looking for a DDR machine, let us know!

The Package Tour - NKOTB, Boyz II Men, & 98 Degrees LIVE in Las Vegas 7-6-13

Sean and I had just gotten in from our 51 hour Columbus to Las Vegas road trip
(Link to other blog post)
the night before NKOTB, Boyz II Men, and 98 Degrees were due to perform The Package North American Tour Vegas concert at the Mandalay Bay Events Center (with Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees as supporting acts for NKOTB). We were still exhausted and didn't wake up til sometime in the afternoon but the 1st thought on my mind once we opened our eyes was, "NKOTB's performing at Mandalay Bay tonight!" We didn't have tickets for the 7:30pm concert and needless to say we were more than a bit late planning for this but I HAD to go. I refused to be in the same city as NKOTB and miss their performance! I immediately got on Craigslist and started searching for good deals on tickets. We finally ended up scoring 2 tickets in section 218 for $80 total which was a pretty good deal considering ticket prices had STARTED at $60 or more each (correct me if I'm wrong). It would be Sean's 1st time seeing them, my 2nd, and we were both so excited!
Seating section map for the concert:
Our tickets:

We arrived at Mandalay Bay around 7pm and walked through the casino to the Events Center. The place was packed with middle aged women all there for the same reason as us, walking the same direction as us. Men in the area were scarce. For me, it was like being part of a giant school of fish but Sean was the odd one out, like the ugly duckling in the family of geese (except he was better looking than any of us females. =p).

We had to go through security to get into the concert.

Just past that, we had a glance at the band merchandise for sale. It was so pricey but so many people were in line for it, buying it, and wearing it. Even I was tempted but I held out. Eventually, it'll all make its way to eBay where I'll pick it up way cheaper anyway. Hey, a girl needs her discounts!

We finally got to our seats. They weren't the best, they weren't the worst, but they were the cheapest and we definitely got our money's worth when NKOTB came on later. Read on!

Things got started with Boyz II Men. I'd never seen them OR 98 Degrees live before but Boyz II Men put on a good show, especially considering their age and how long it'd been since they were big. I wasn't there for them but I was glad we got to see them and happy with their performance plus Sean and I enjoyed singing along with all their old songs!
A mini sample of what we saw!:

98 Degrees were on next. I only knew a couple of their songs and their performance wasn't especially remarkable in my opinion but we enjoyed and appreciated it all anyway. They showed us a pretty good time. =)
The stage as 98 Degrees came on:
Towards the end of 98 Degrees' performance, we left our seats in search of better ones. When we'd 1st arrived, the place was pretty empty with LOTS of seats available in every section. We'd considered finding better ones then but didn't mind ours either so we decided to wait it out a bit and see what would be available later in the show. Most of the seats actually did fill up from the start of the show til just before the New Kids got on stage but we still managed to find some really good ones in section 107, opposite our original seats. They were a lot closer and best of all we didn't have to pay extra to sit in them (like we'd originally considered when searching craigslist for tickets and toying with the idea of paying $140+ for 2 tickets in the 100's sections)!

There was an intermission between 98 Degrees and NKOTB. Omg The suspense killed me!! Finally though, the New Kids came on stage...I'm not sure I can put most of the rest of the night into words so I'll put it into video instead!
The COMPLETE 1st half of NKOTB's performance:
..And the entire 2nd half!:

Wow, what a crazy, amazing night!! I was just about speechless after that. Even now, all I can say is that, as long as they're around, this definitely won't be the last we see of NKOTB. We impatiently look forward til next time!

Can't get enough of NKOTB, 98 Degrees, Boyz II Men, or my amazing camera skills? Check out my full photo set and video playlist from this event here:

Massachusetts and My 25th Birthday 5/4/13 - 5/11/13 (Day 4)

Day 4 - 5/7/13:

We woke up at 8:45am today and I had to pee SO BADLY! Usually, I don't wait for a restroom when I have to pee but there was nowhere around us for me to get out of plain sight so we went down the street to McDonald's.

At McDonald's, we peed, washed up, changed clothes, and ordered breakfast, including something we'd never tried or seen at a McDonald's before (though it's possible we just didn't notice them at some earlier ones we'd visited): a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich! Aside from it's price of $3.69, it was pretty good. Could've been better with cream cheese but still tasty. :)

#########
Then it was back to Bunker Hill to climb the monument! It was 294 steps to the top and I'm not gonna lie I was a little out of breath by the time we made it up. There were 4 windows to look out from there and the view was much more extensive than I thought it would be when looking up at the monument from ground level.
Start of the 294 Bunker Hill Monument stairs:
#########

Back on the ground, we laid in the grass and took a little time to empty the pics and vids from our phones to my HP mini laptop. Sean took his shirt off to sunbathe and I noticed he had glitter all over his chest. Wtf and he explained it was the blonde hairs on his body catching the sun. LMFAO TWILIGHT!

We did the Bunker Hill Museum across the street after that.

######### ######### #########

Then we moved the car since everywhere we could find to park had a 2hr maximum time limit. It was time to do the Freedom Trail!

Just after re-parking, we saw a guy come out of his house walking SIX dogs on leashes! Sean says he's a dog walker and that people actually pay for that service but I'd never seen it before!

#########
On the Freedom Trail, the first really interesting place we passed was an old graveyard called Copp's Hill Burying Ground.

Note: 2 more differences I noticed between Vegas and here are that Boston and surrounding areas have basements in a lot of their buildings as well as a significant amount of ivy growing on some of them.

The Old North Church was next on the trail and just down the street.
Inside the Old North Church:
#########
We were thirsty so we stopped in a convenience store and got some Coca-Cola product called Tab soda in a pink can. It tasted just like regular Coke to me. Sean said he'd had it when he was a kid but not in a pink can and it didn't taste like he remembered.

#########
Just around the corner was the Paul Revere House. Admission was only $3.50 per person but they didn't allow photos to be taken inside and we were a little short on time anyway so we just got pics of the outside and continued on.

######### #########
Note: Pedestrians don't care about crosswalks or traffic lights in Boston. Everyone just j-walks whenever the road's clear.

We skipped a few of the attractions on the Freedom Trail but overall I think we covered the most interesting of them.

We even detoured just a bit and saw the New England Holocaust Memorial in Carmen Park.
Holocaust Memorial:
#########
Back on the trail we came back to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market where we took pics, looked around the Great Hall, walked around the various gift and souvenir shops, and walked down the long walkway of food stalls in Quincy Market getting free samples of various things including clam chowder with bread!

Outside, we saw a cute horse and carriage! I wanted a ride but maybe another time.. Then we got 4 juicy pears at the outdoor market there for $1 total!

#########
A few minutes later, we reached the Old State House Museum and the Boston Massacre Site. The museum was closed but the gift shop inside was open so we looked around briefly.

Down the street, we found another b.good restaurant where we thought we'd check if we could get free fries. I scanned some code they sent me when I put my email into their app and they told me I could have any burger I wanted for free for my bday! I let the cashier pick and he picked me the Cousin Oliver with cheese ($7.04 value). It was so fresh and delicious!

#########
We got a drink and a bag of French Onion Sun Crisps at the 7 Eleven next to the Old South Meeting House.

Next to the 7 Eleven, there was a place called David's Tea and we noticed a sign outside saying they were giving away free large teas today, May 7th. We went in and got 2 free iced teas and they gave us a couple packets of ground up tea leaves and bags so we could make tea at home later! I love free stuff.
Various teas inside David's Tea:
#########
It was nearly 6:30pm and we'd seen all the things we'd really wanted on the Freedom Trail so we walked back to the car and headed to Harvard - the university I'd planned to attend from the time I was 6 years old until I graduated high school and realized I actually had no idea what I wanted from life but that whatever it was not at Harvard at that time. After looking around the campus, however, my crimson spirit was revived! Sean and I decided we'd be back one day to at least take a couple of classes and say we'd had the true Harvard experience.

#########
While on campus, we put some of our advertisements for my CandyMountainCrafts.com and Sean's web development up on various notice boards. We'd actually been putting flyers up all over town during our adventures this trip. Hopefully it'll pay off!

On the way back, we stopped in a shop to get Sean some gummy candies (he's such a kid!), passed the World's Only Curious George Store in Harvard Square, and walked through John F. Kennedy Memorial Park.
World's Only Curious George Store:
#########
We were very hungry and only had one more major Boston stop left on the to-do list: Hard Rock Cafe. We drove there to check out the NKOTB stuff on the wall - the dolls, the signed picture of them when they were young next to Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg's signed photo, and Jonathan's Hangin' Tough Live tour jacket. To satisfy our hunger, we ordered chicken fingers with classic rock and heavy metal (tasted like buffalo) sauce on potato chips with blue cheese for $10.50 total. Not bad! We'd ordered our food at the Black Sabbath table, which was pretty cool, but we moved it to one of the New Kids' tables to eat since NKOTB was part of the reason we were in Boston! Then we took about a billion pics of the New Kids' stuff, other awesome artists' stuff, and the rest of the restaurant and asked our waitress for some Hard Rock Cafe cocktail picks and stir sticks to take home as souvenirs because they looked cool. She and the bartender gave us a bunch of them and told me happy birthday as we headed out and they closed for the night.

Then it was OFFICIALLY my birthday!! Sean was the first to wish me happy bday in person and I got some bday hugs, kisses, and dances out of it too! :D

We were tired but to celebrate a little before sleeping, we walked a couple of blocks down to the Boston Harbor's Long Wharf North, walked out on the dock there where it meets the water, looked back at the city, checked out a few little sights we stumbled across, made it back to the car, and finally drove to the spot we'd slept the night before, had car sex that felt so good and made me cum so hard, and cuddled up for more sleep!! ^_^

Massachusetts and My 25th Birthday 5/4/13 - 5/11/13 (Days 7 & 8)

<< Prev 1 2 3 4 5 6 Next >>

Day 7 - 5/10/13:

We woke up before 10am and drove about a block down to McDonald's where we did our usual - washed up, changed clothes, got tea and coffee to wake us up.

It was already really warm and sunny. The last 2 days had been pretty grey with rain off and on so it was nice to see the sun again, though it got surprisingly hot.

It was our last full day in MA and we hadn't played at many dance game locations (only Game Underground and Dave's so far) so we pulled up ddrfreak to see what was nearby.

The closest place was Regal 13 Theater in Boston:

Regal 13 Theater
401 Park Drive Ste. 7
Boston, MA 02215
(617)424-6266

They were supposed to have ITG2 there at $1 for 1 song with joint premium on, according to the 2009 ddrfreak update, but when we arrived it was DDR Supernova at $1 for 3 songs. We had a quick credit (pads were decent), updated ddrfreak, and moved on.

Next up was Boston Bowl in Dorchester, MA:

Boston Bowl Family Fun Center
820 William T Morrissey Blvd
Dorchester, MA 02121
617-825-3800

The setup and details given on ddrfreak in 2008 were still the same when we arrived. The DDR Supenova and ITG2 dedicab (with an ITG3 marquee) were still there and in the same spot but the ITG2 was out of order and turned off. I asked the attendant about it but she didn't know what was wrong with it. She said it'd been out of service for maybe 6 months now. I asked if she knew if the owner would consider selling it and she called we manager in for me. Her manager explained they'd been trying to get it fixed for quite awhile now as they had a regular community (Lisette included) that used to come in and play on it and the DDR SN next to it but that they'd sent the boxor out to Cali to get it fixed (I'm thinking she means by Mark), gotten it back, had it working for a month or 2, had it break again, and sent it back to Cali where it's currently being worked on but she's not sure if it'll work, what's wrong with it, or what they're going to do with it. I told her I'd ask the local community if they knew anything about it or could help in any way but that I was interested in buying it if they couldn't fix it. She gave me the email for get general manager and said I could talk to him about buying it and that he might be willing to sell but I later spoke with Lisette's dad who said he knew what was wrong and already had the parts to fix it, which he'd be doing as soon as he got a chance. I'd prefer to keep the machine where it is for the local community anyway but if ever it breaks again and isn't fixed I'll gladly rescue it and take it home to Vegas! After that, Sean and I had a game on Supernova, which had pretty good pads considering it's a DDR machine and most likely unmodded, and then left in search of food!

*After talking to Lisette's dad Eddie, we learned that the issue with the machine was that they kept trying to buy new video cards for it but only old ones were compatible with it so Eddie had gotten the video cards for it and he and Sigma were planning to go back and install them but just hadn't been back yet.

DDR had gotten us very hungry again so stopped to eat at a Burger King we found but there was no air conditioning on and it was so hot! Weird. They DID have $0.75 ICEEs though so Sean got an ICEE and we split 2 $1 burgers and a $1 chicken sandwich.

A nice view we saw while driving:
#########
Then we went to play at Dave and Buster's!

Dave and Buster's
250 Granite St
Braintree, MA 02184
(781)519-7900

We had a coupon for $10 of free play when you load $10 on your card but we only wanted 1 game on their DDR machine, there was a $2 activation fee for a new card, and the coupon turned out to be pretty useless as the arcade had signs with the same offer anyway. We decided to look around the arcade for a card someone might've lost instead. In the process, we found lots of tickets, a cool necklace left in the prize collection box of a crane game, $15 cash laying on the floor, and lots of free credits on various games including 3 credits on DDR and several on ticket dispensing games. Ddrfreak had said the machine there was a DDR X, last updated 2 months ago, and didn't list any other music games but when we arrived we found the machine was actually DDR X2, fully unlocked with usbs and edits working and doubles premium on, and that there was a Guitar Hero machine there too. (I'm guessing it was the same 2 months prior but ddrfreak doesn't have X2 and Guitar Hero as selectable machine options.) After DDR, we went to cash in our tickets (138 tickets worth 2 points each for a total of 276 points!) but were told they needed to be loaded onto our game card, which we obviously didn't have. We told the arcade attendant we didn't have a card since we'd been using our friend's when he was there but he'd left with his card but had left all the tickets with us. She was super nice though and gave us a card (saving us the $2 activation fee) with some credits and another 100 points already loaded onto it! Wow..We used our now 376 points and got 2 Dave and Buster's shot glasses and a sparkly bracelet. The attendant gave us the bracelet for free and left 56 points on the card she'd give us! She was really nice and talked to us a bit about where we were from, where all we'd traveled, the DDR tat she noticed on my right shoulder, and the fact she hadn't done much traveling herself. On the way out, we found 6 chocolate bars in the prize collection area of a candy crane game. I feel like we got paid to play there!

#########
Once we felt we'd experienced all Dave and Buster's had to offer us, we drove back up towards Salem to meet Lisette and her dad at Salem Willows Arcade (where we'd tried to go a couple days prior and it turns out there actually was still a DDR Extreme machine) but we stopped at 1 last location on the way where there was supposed to be DDR Extreme, according to the location's last ddrfreak update in 2005, but we instead found an ITG2 upgrade:

Metro Bowl
63 Foster St
Peabody, MA 01960
leosmetrobowl.com/

When we got inside, all the games in the arcade were off but they flipped a switch and turned them all on as soon as they saw us looking that direction. When we got to the ITG2 machine it was just booting up and saying that the USB ports weren't connected. The machine was r2 and pads were really bad but 2P side was better. The monitor was going out so it randomly dimmed and brightens but not so much that the arrows were unreadable. The hardest thing we managed to pass with the 1 credit (4 tokens, 4 songs) we played was Mythology, Sean on the 1P pad and me on the better, 2P pad.

We finally arrived at Salem Willows just before 7pm.

Next to the Salem Willows arcade was a "Casino" that was actually just another arcade:
#########
One of the more amusing things we found in the "casino". =p :
#########
Inside Salem Willows, we met up with Lizzie and her dad as well as dance gamers Demir and Dominick who we'd never met before for some DDR Extreme! The machine there was really good - especially the 1P side. It was $1 per 4 song game. Sean and I played a few credits, taking turns with the rest of them there as well as a few randoms.

#########
Left to right: Demir, Lizzie's father, Lizzie, me, and Sean:

Then we got hungry and explored the restaurants by the arcade. It was mostly ice cream, pizza, and Chinese food and the best deal we found was chicken chop suey sandwiches for $1.85 each. Sean and I thought "hell yes!"..then they handed us these sloppy bean sprout-covered buns. XD Surprisingly, they were about as good as McDoubles at McDonald's. They just looked horrible.
Chicken chop suey sandwiches:
#########
Looks like this place used to be an arcade too. Too bad we weren't around for those days and too bad those days are gone.:
#########
After hanging in the arcade a little longer, we gave Lisette and her dad a ride to their house in Malden and just as we pulled up to their place I saw an opossum running across the street! I chased it down til it ran under a car and sat still as I took a few pics. Then it ran off before I could grab it. Lol I think it was the 1st opossum I'd seen in the wild and definitely the biggest I'd ever seen. So much interesting wildlife in MA!
BIG, adorable opossum:
#########
Then we drove through a huge graveyard that had street signs and everything to get to a McDonald's where we got tea (technically free hot water), coffee (iced, as I've actually gotten this whole trip), and a fountain drink and used the wifi for awhile before finding a random hotel called Red Roof Inn and parking in their parking lot to sleep in the car! It started raining lightly just before we got to the hotel so we had some peaceful sounds to sleep to. :)

Note: Some of the gas stations in the area are full service only and they don't let you pump your own gas (like in Oregon). Strange that it's only some. They have chains of gas stations I've never seen before like Gulf and Hess as well.

Day 8 - 5/11/13 (Last Day in MA!):

I was dreaming about sexing Sean and it was so intense I woke up wet and NEEDING it. I tried to ignore it and let him sleep but it was too much.. I grabbed him and it was a matter of seconds before I was on top, riding him. I felt all tingly and so horny I thought I was gonna orgasm the moment we started. It felt so fucking good but the car was so steamy and everything was so humid from the combination of the last night's rain and the morning's heat. On top of that, we were under our blanket in the back seat of the car and we were soaking wet, drenched in our own sweat and fluids. It was incredible and disgusting at the same time.

Once our needs were handled, we went on a desperate search for a place to wash up. I was close to giving up and trying to find a truck stop to get us a $12 shower when we found a Walgreens, went in to use their restroom, stripped naked, and washed everything - hair shampooing included!
A gorgeous golf course we passed while looking for a place to clean up:
#########
Both of us were extremely hungry due to a combination of not eating much the night before and burning off some calories with morning sex. We drove to yet another McDonald's just in time to order their last 2 sausage McMuffins before they stopped serving breakfast as well as a couple side salads (yum!), iced coffee, and a free hot water (Sean brought his own tea back). I think his last couple of hot teas were done this way, actually, with free hot waters and tea bags we'd brought with us. Not sure why we didn't think of it sooner!

Note to self: I need to stop ordering 2 food items when we eat at fast food joints. I almost never finish them and end up giving away my leftovers!

Back at the car, we packed up all our things so we'd be ready to go when it was time to return the car and fly home.

We still had some time left before that though so we used it to complete the very last item on our to-do list for the trip: visiting Joey McIntyre's old house!:

215 Warren St
Brookline, MA 02146
House Joey McIntyre used to live in:
#########
Even after that, we still had a little time left but nothing that needed doing. What to do? I looked in my coupons and found one for another free birthday scoop of ice cream at Ben and Jerry's! Like the last one I'd used, it was only supposed to be used at a Vegas location but since I wasn't in Vegas for my bday I figured it was only fair that they let me use it in Boston. The employee agreed with me about that when I showed up with my coupon and gave me my scoop! She said happy birthday to me and asked what type of ice cream I wanted. I let her pick and she chose her favorite flavor: phish food. I'd never had it before but once I tried it I was really glad I let her pick!

It was a little after 2pm and our car was due back at 3 so we went to return it, stopping at a Gulf gas station near the airport just to top up the gas. Next to the pump at the station, someone had left a bunch of sealed Gatorade bottles, probably because they were gassing up their rental and then heading to the airport (where they wouldn't be able to bring large liquid bottles) too. We took and drank one of the bottles and left the things we couldn't take (sauces, lighter.. Lighter by the pump? Oh well.) next to the rest of the bottles.
