I received an email about this event a few days prior. In the email, it mentioned that first 50 attendees dressed up in gold would get a prize. We were sure the prize wouldn't be anything big but it was a good excuse to dress up, leave the house, be social, and get some free exercise.
When the night of the 20th rolled around, we dressed up, took our rollerblades and headed over! We skated a good couple of hours away while the DJ played all the jams and the skate night host we always see there kept spirits high with limbo, dancing, and lots of other fun gimmicks and activities throughout the night.
At midnight, there was a champagne toast and the first 50 people to head to the bar got a free glass of champagne! (Obviously, we rushed over and claimed ours. :p) Unfortunately, a radio station there at the time had a drawing for free movie tickets at that exact same time. I apparently won and they texted me to tell me so but I was too busy drinking champagne to notice and I missed my prize. :(
As for the aforementioned prize for the first 50 gold-wearing attendees, that wound up being a Down & Derby hat each. Sean wore his for the night but we ultimately ended up donating them. Don't get me wrong though; we had a great time at this event! In fact, in addition to the free champagne, the awesomeness of a grown-up skate party, and the catchy tunes, I got 2nd place, losing only to a gold Michael Jackson, in their gold outfit costume contest we hadn't even known they were having! Sean and I had been about to leave when they announced the contest. They apparently had cash prizes for top 2 and I was 2nd. They called "Michael Jackson" and me up, took some pictured of us, and handed us cash: $50 for me. Not a bad surprise!
Finally, they got all of us who were dressed in gold together and we took some big group pictures.
Sean and I were feeling tired and achy-footed then so we headed home to relax and replenish any calories we may have burned during the night!
