Sean and I recently had to visit the Grand Canyon to fulfill a big Etsy order someone placed with us (oh no, tragedy! :p) but entry was $30 just for the day and it was already evening when we arrived. We decided it was more worthwhile to pay $80 for the annual America the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass and just visit as many national parks as possible within the year. The other day, we drove to Red Rock just outside of Vegas and used the pass to get into the paid area we normally never visit. In addition to a visitors center, there was a 13 mile scenic loop with plenty of overlooks, picnic areas, and other places to stop off and explore. We drove the loop, stopping here and there to snap pics of great views! About halfway, we even did a tiny out-and-back trail (0.7 miles total) to a little waterfall.
We bought a cheap Groupon deal awhile back for 1 week of indoor climbing including shoe rental for 2 people at a place called The Refuge here in Vegas. For the past week, we've been climbing there. They have a mini gym area too so I went for a few little runs there when my arms got too tired. By our last day, yesterday, I'd managed to do 1 purple (5th hardest out of 9) and Sean had managed to do 1 red (6th hardest out of 9). I did a handful of greens (4th hardest) but Sean was much more proficient at them. We got Danny to get a day pass and go with us for our last day too and he did a couple of blues (2nd hardest) before the night was over!
We started another month-long Planet Fitness membership using another Groupon on April 14th so we're working out a bit for the time being. After the month is up, not sure whether we'll go back (using another 2-month Groupon we have on hand) or take a break and do something else. We'll have to see!
