For some insane reason, I got carried away while booking deals online and wound up booking TWO Socal 5k races on Groupon the morning before a San Diego PIU tournament we were considering attending as added incentive to make the trip out. I must really hate myself. Lol
Anyway, we manned up and made the drive out Friday afternoon, the day before the races and tournament. On the way, we stopped by Buffalo Bills in Primm and found that they'd removed their PIU NX machine! :( When asked, they said it'd been moved to an arcade in Vegas somewhere. They still had their DDR Extreme though. We updated ddrfreak accordingly.
Just under two hours from the Mermaid 5k race location, which was the first place we needed to be the next morning, traffic was terrible. (Technically, it was the Mermaid Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k but we only had enough time and energy for the 5k.) We pulled off the freeway near UC Riverside to find a spot and get some car sleep til it'd subsided. A little before 2am, we got back on the road, stopping only for a restroom break, energy drinks, and some cheap Del Taco foods on the way. Funny thing at Del Taco: the drive-thru employee who helped us was super stoked to hear Sean's accent. He said he'd never heard an accent like it in person except from people coming through the drive-thru and faking it til they got to the window. Haha Too funny!
We got to the Mermaid 5k vicinity around 4am and found a place to park and get about 2 more hours of sleep.
Day 2 - 2/13/16 (Mermaid 5k, Insane Inflatable 5k, Cupid is Stupid! PIU tourney, & Crazy Night!):
At 6:15am, we were awake again. Dead tired but awake. We made our way to one of the designated parking lots for the race, got ready, and started the very long journey to the start line. We actually had to jog the whole way there (more than half a mile, less than 1.5 miles, can't quite remember or be sure exactly how far) and were still a bit sore from the Valentine's fun run and other running we'd done earlier in the week but at least we were warmed up come start time!
At the start, we got our numbers and shirts and such, watched the start of the half marathon (not long before our 5k), and then lined up for our 5k. We decided to start in the front this time. I don't like the front but at least I didn't have to fight my way past the crowd like I usually do when I start in back. The race felt really hard, actually, and we started off pretty slowly. Since it was meant to be an all-female race but allowed guys to enter and run with their ladies, Sean stuck with me through the race. Neither of us realized it as we both felt like we were running slowly for my normal pace but we actually sped up as the race progressed, despite some struggles with hills here and there, and wound up getting me a new PR! I think I got 23:23 - definitely a best for me on a 5k. Sean wasn't even trying throughout the race and even spent part of the time doing some work on his phone (wtf?! Haha) but he still came 1st place out of the 20 guys who entered! I came 5th of the 551 ladies who entered or 6th of the 571 total people who entered (right behind Sean). We both got 1st in our age groups too! Unfortunately, they didn't offer prizes for men as it was a ladies' race and we didn't have time to stay for my prize because we had another race to get to about an hour away but we got our medals and other goodies at the finish line and they mailed me my age group prize later!
Back at the car, we got ready for our 2nd race: the Insane Inflatable 5k. Technically it was just an untimed, obstacle course fun run with waves of runners throughout the morning and ended up being significantly short of 3.1 miles and haven't bad traffic jams of people waiting to do obstacles along the course but we had a good time and got some good exercise! I was dead tired actually so waiting multiple minutes to do some of the obstacles, though frustrating, was probably good for me. Lol The weather was nice and we got cool finisher's medals and a fee goodies too. Can't complain about that!
Our last extremely physical event of the day was next: the Cupid is Stupid! PIU Prime tournament at a place called Corvette Diner in San Diego, not far from where the Mermaid 5k had been. We should've had plenty of time to get there but got stuck in awful traffic and wound up just making it for the start of the tourney. Neither of us had been there before so it was a cool, new machine location for us both to add to our "collection". It was a GX cabinet and they were requiring that we played with the background on using the default noteskin and wearing shoes but it was actually alright! Besides, when we got inside we were greeted by an assortment of dance game friends equally enjoying the excuse to get together and hang out. The tournament format was more enjoyable than I'm used to as well. We all played the same 5 songs (3 singles, 2 doubles) and our points were added up to determine our overall places. I didn't do too well place-wise but I did well for me and placed 1st female, getting $30 in Amazon gift cards as a reward. Sean did even better and impressed everyone, coming 4th overall, only missing 3rd by a few points!

After the tournament, a lot of us went to a Chinese buffet nearby. Sean and I were sooo hungry. We definitely got our money's worth!
It was time to say goodbye to most of the rest of the tourney attendees then but a few of us wanted to make the most of the night by bar hopping at the beach. Josh, Sean, and I followed Brandon Lazaro to find free parking near the bars and ocean. Then we pregamed at the car with some Bacardi Sean and I had brought from Vegas before walking to a nearby bar called Bub's to chill with a couple more drinks. We made our way to the beach then and were joined by Gabriel Dalalio and Jack. Sean and I wound up going for a dip in the ocean (we had bathing suits under our clothes) and the rest was kind of a blur after that. Can't remember if anyone else went for a swim but I know/was told that Brandon headed home around then, the rest of us drank lots of alcohol Gabriel had brought with him while hanging out back at our car, we ended up in some bar or club, Jack bought us all drinks (AMFs and tequila shots, I believe), we did some dancing that was probably pretty bad, we went wandering down the street outside, I started spewing puke everywhere, Josh was totally wasted but was taking care of me and holding my hair and such, Jack and Gabriel went to get hot dogs to help, Josh and I wound up lying on the sidewalk sprawled out on opposite sides of the street,.. and I woke up the next morning buckled into the passenger seat of the car BACKWARDS with a fancy hot dog next to me, my purse on underneath my jacket, my dress half down (luckily I had swimwear under), contacts still in, feeling like an absolute turd. Sean was in the driver's seat. I didn't have a clue how I got there but Sean explained that at some point he'd managed to take me back to the car and say goodnight to the guys. Then we'd gone to sleep for about 6 hours. Not sure why I was buckled, considering we were still parked in the same spot, but nice to know that my drunken self still thought of safety first!
Day 3 - 2/14/16 (Valentine's):
I was a wreck today. I couldn't do anything. Sean was alright though. He drove us to an AMPM, I think it was, on the way home for a big beverage. Then we stopped in a Starbucks to use a gift card we had and get some beverages. I got a green tea frappuccino (they actually messed up and gave me a spare for free!), Sean got a tea, and we watched some Supernatural on his computer while relaxing on a couch out front. :) Down the street from there, we checked out the Pechanga Casino. When we got to Ontario, I sent Sean into the Dave & Buster's there for a quick credit on their PIU machine while I rested in the car. I'd finally recouped enough to drive by the time we got to Barstow so we stopped at Valero there so Sean could use some deals he had to get some snacks and then I finished driving us home.
Once we'd unpacked the car at home, we had a nice bath, used a BiteSquad voucher we had to get some discounted food from a Japanese restaurant delivered, ate while watching more Supernatural, and had some long and amazing sex. Mmm... Then we passed out in each other's arms. Such a great end to a crazy Valentine's weekend!
