Spartan Volunteering, Rock 'n' Roll San Jose Race, Liz's Birthday, 10 Year High School Reunion, Juliet to Vegas - Tahoe & NorCal Trip 9/29/16 - 10/9/16

We left the house at 6:33pm. We weren't feeling ready for another roadtrip but we had places to be so we hopped in the car and got on our way.

We had a few last errands to run before leaving town, the last of which was stopping by Julie Murphy's pretty new house, 12 minutes from our house in a nice gated community, to drop off a few arrows she'd ordered from me for the upcoming UNLV ITG tournament she'd be hosting on Friday. It was our first time seeing her new place. When we arrived, she showed us around and insisted on sending us off with an assortment of snacks and drinks. She insisted we take another $10 payment for the arrows as well but we refused. She'd already done too much for us!

We were on the 95 freeway northbound just after 8pm. I took the first shift, listening to some of the 147 Spanish audio lessons Sean had gotten for me recently, trying to get smarter on the way.

When we reached Goldfield, NV, we put on the country song Forty Miles of Famous by Richard Elloyan that we'd gotten from the deejay at their local radio station!

"I turned on my radio and tuned in the only choice
And pouring through those speakers, I recognized my voice
On that lonely stretch of highway where the crows and the coyotes call
I'm 40 miles of famous between Goldfield and Tonopah"

We felt so free and amazing! Lol

Shortly after that, we were in Tonopah, stopping for a restroom break at Tonopah Station and at Valero for gas. They'd removed the free tea and coffee from Tonopah Station but there was still tons of other cool stuff to see and do there. We still needed to plan a trip just to stay there sometime! There was a Tesla electric car charging station across the street from Valero. Cool to see in the middle of nowhere like that!

Sean was actually super tired so he only did an hour of driving. I took care of the rest, stopping for gas again at a Maverik station we passed and getting us to Olympic Valley, CA a little before 5am.

Day 2 -9/29/16 (Spartan World Championships - Volunteering):

So I got a grand total of 2 hours of sleep before I had to wake up. Luckily, I'd managed to park us right near where we needing to be: "base camp" for the Spartan set up. There, we got checked in for the volunteering shift we'd signed up for and started our assigned duty - this time almost exclusively cleaning signs and banners, just the two of us, for 11 hours - from 7:30am til 6:30pm. It was extremely tedious but we got a free race, free shirts, $50 credit each to use in the Spartan online store, lunch (chili!), snacks, and a cool preview of the part of the race set up around the start and finish line! Also, it was a great day and great location to be outside and it was all taking place right there at the location of the 1960 Winter Olympics! (Of course, we got awesome pics of the sign from the Olympics.)

After our insanely long day of volunteering and only 2 hours of sleep prior for me, we were kinda tired so we pretty much just chilled in the car there til we feel asleep for 11.5 hours.

Day 3 -9/30/16 (Tahoe, Stateline..):

A day after arriving, we were finally free to explore the area a bit! We drove around Tahoe City and around Lake Tahoe, stopping to snap some pics here and there. It was such a pretty day! Blue skies, minimal clouds, great temperatures..

We stopped in a cute, little thrift store for a look around but didn't get anything.

Eventually, we made it to the casinos at Stateline. Sean hadn't been to this particular area before, I don't think, and I don't believe I'd been since I went with Danny at the end of May 2009.

We stopped in Harvey's first. When we arrived they still had their awesome, good-sized downstairs arcade there with Dance Maniax and DDR Extreme inside! It was open 24/7. I think that might've been the same when I last visited? DDR's 1P pad had a cracked arrow but we shared a credit on 2P and managed to average B's on it. The screens on it and on Dance Maniax were both kinda bad but did the job! Dance Maniax had a sensor-top missing but still worked pretty well! It was hard to see what to do because of the dark, blurry, discolored screen but as long as we didn't play anything super hard we were fine. It was $0.50 for 3 songs for 2 players (joint premium!) for Dance Maniax and $0.75 for 3 songs for DDR Extreme. We played 2 credits together on Dance Maniax, though we failed during the second credit because we couldn't see well enough to pass Dynamite Rave. Lol Still, super worth it and super fun!

Adjacent to Harvey's was Harrah's. We walked over and found their arcade next! (I think I'd done that walk in reverse when I'd played there with Danny.) Inside, Grand Piano Keys, Dance Maniax, DDR Extreme with a 3rd Mix marquee, and DDR USA were waiting for us! So cool to see that they still had old and even new dance games after all these years! We shared a few credits on Dance Maniax at $0.50/3 songs (no joint premium) and actually found a free $1 in tokens in its' coin return. Like the one in Harvey's, it had a dark screen that made it a little hard to see too but at least it wasn't discolored and it worked okay otherwise. Not perfect but better than expected for a machine of its age! DDR USA and Extreme were both $0.75/3 songs so we shared a credit on each. Both had decent pads. We played the 1P side on USA. The pads were a little sunken in on Extreme but worked well! Well, we didn't try the 1P side but the 2P side only gave a few non-combos per song. After all that, we found some stray tickets and got some free candy at the prize counter before leaving.

Down the street were the Hard Rock and Montbleu casinos. We didn't bother going to Hard Rock but we stopped in Montbleu, had a peek in their music-game-free arcade, and joined their players club. Not sure I'd ever been in Montbleu prior but I definitely hadn't joined their players club before. They gave us cool key chains in fancy bags for joining.

Driving around, we wound up at the park of Lake Tahoe we'd jumped in together years prior. We stopped there again and had another cold plunge in the icy, clear water!

Then we finally made our way from Tahoe westward through northern California, stopping for the night near Sacramento. There, we dropped off a chair we'd been booked through Uship to transport. (Yay money!) Sean was getting tired then so we found a Pilot travel center called 49er Travel Plaza to park, get cozy in the back of the car, watch a movie on the laptop, eat some Burger King we'd picked up across the street, enjoy a little late night sexy time, and finally fall asleep in the car at.

Day 4 - 10/1/16:

We woke up at 8:28am and left the travel center to continue west. We didn't get far before realizing we were hungry though. Luckily, we almost immediately spotted an Ikea and stopped in for cheap breakfast. We each got a $1 small breakfast, a $2 Swedish American breakfast, and a free hot drink - coffee for me and tea for Sean - before finding outlets and using WiFi to get a few hours of work done.

After Ikea, we got back on the road, stopping for a little gas and to see my sister in Hayward for a few minutes before continuing to San Jose. In San Jose, we parked at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center to stop by the health and fitness expo where the Rock N' Roll San Jose race we'd be running the following morning - Sean in the 1/2 marathon and me in the 10k - had their packet pickup. When we arrived, we only had about 20 minutes left til the end of the convention so we didn't have time to see much. We got our race stuff quickly though and then rushed around the convention to get some quick pics and edible freebies.

We didn't really have a plan then but we knew we needed to at least do a pre-race jog at some point so we got some gas and found a park with a lake called Cunningham Lake, apparently where the local Raging Waters was located! We were disappointed when we got to the lake and saw there was a mandatory $10 fee to pay but when we actually got to the parking lot the pay station was covered with a sign that said "Parking is FREE today only, Saturday 10/1". How lucky! So we jogged a slow 2.55 miles around the lake and Raging Waters as the sun went down, snapping a couple of pics along the way and finally stopping to try some cool exercise equipment they had there.

I was desperate for a wash then so we drove around looking for a place to get clean and spotted a strange-looking Chuck E' Cheese's in the process:

Chuck E' Cheese's
2445 Fontaine Rd
San Jose, CA

I felt some deja vu when I saw the place and wasn't sure whether it was the two-story Norcal location I'd visited a decade or so ago that had two DDR machines including an older version that I tried Paranoia on, like USA or something. I looked into it and saw in my DDR binder that I had played there before and that they had been listed as having DDR USA and 5th Mix at the time. Their last ddrfreak update was in 2011 and showed them as having DDR SuperNova. We went inside and were sad to find that they currently had no DDR machines but were comforted by finding PIU Jump (the Chuck E' Cheese one Andamiro made), Grand Piano Keys, and Guitar Hero there.

Earlier in the day, we'd stopped at a McDonald's to try and plan our next move. While there, we'd seen a handful of low riders and fancy vehicles come into the lot. One of the low riders gave us a pretty fancy hydraulics display, climbed on top of his driver's door when the vehicle was practically sideways, and had Sean and my busting up laughing!

We finally gave up on finding anywhere comfortable to wash and just went back to that McDonald's. Across the street from there was a park. There weren't many people there so we parked at McDonald's and Sean walked me over to the park's restroom so I could have a good scrub in their sink. Lol He decided to hold out on washing but I just couldn't. It was super cold but by the end of it I was fresh and clean!

There was a Walmart Supercenter not too far from there so we drove over and bought a chicken, bananas, bread, soda, and chili for our last big pre-race meal. We ate while watching movies and then parked in a quiet spot across the street to cuddle up and get some sleep.

Day 5 - 10/2/16 (Rock N' Roll San Jose):

In the morning, we got up at 6am. It was still dark and we'd had 6 to 6.5 hours of sleep but we felt rested enough. We got  changed and headed over to the SAP Center, where the designated free race parking was, to finish getting ready and head over to the start line at W Santa Clara & Almaden Ave. There were LOTS of people there in the lot, making their way to the start, waiting in line for porta-potties, lining up in their corrals, checking their bags, etc. It was going to be my biggest race to date. Based on our self-predicted finishing times, I was starting in corral 4 (of may 21 or more?) and Sean was starting in 2. We had plenty of time to prepare before the race and snap some pics and such but when it was time to run we had to plan a good post race meeting spot, say our goodbyes and good lucks, and line up in our corrals. The first corral started at 8am with later corrals following in waves every couple of minutes. I ran a fairly comfortable race, enjoying all the entertainment along the way. There were bands, cheerleaders, a color guard squad, huge water and Gatorade stations with tons of volunteers handing out cups, people with motivational and hilarious signs, companies with supportive signs, tenants in front of their homes offering water and various types of support, and tons of other people cheering us on and keeping us all going. We ran down streets and through neighborhoods around central San Jose. I hadn't exactly known what to expect from a race of this caliber but as the miles passed it wasn't as overwhelmingly crowded as I'd anticipated. People spread out quite a bit after the start and, though I had to spend time and effort maneuvering around and between people throughout the race, I typically didn't struggle to at least have elbow room while running. When I finished the race, I tried to wait near the finish for Sean but it got too crowded and finishers were being moved along to keep the area clear so I met him in the family meeting area instead. Then we got lots of post race freebies including a free beer each, other beverages, snacks, even badass goodies exclusively for Toyota owners. (You just have to show a Toyota key, which I'd run with, for the last of these!) We enjoyed some of these at the post race festival for a bit before making our way back to the car a good while later. As for our race results:

We'd gotten another Uship booking so after munching tons of food back at our car we drove over to San Francisco to pick up the item. The good news is that we were already in San Jose so we didn't have to pay bridge tolls to get to the pickup location. The bad news is that we must've driven over an hour to get there between distance and traffic and when we arrived the item was hundreds of pounds over the weight mentioned. The person we were picking it up from wouldn't help us load it either and it wasn't until after we were already there that the person who'd booked us stated that we'd need a dolly to move it. They'd quoted us the wrong weight and then told us MUCH LATER that we'd need a dolly, even though they already knew we'd be moving it in a Prius (therefore there clearly wouldn't be enough room for the dolly and the item even if we HAD been able to bring a dolly). On the bright side, we got Uship to reimburse us $50 for the inconvenience.

Sean and I went to Starbucks to use our gold card and some credit we had loaded on it to get a couple of basically half priced drinks (plus free refills!) then while we used outlets and wifi to work there.

Liz and Kyle were dog sitting (technically doing dro-in visits) for a work buddy and the house the dog was at was only a few minutes from where we were. When my sister got over there, we met up with her and took the dog on an hour or so Ling walk together.

We followed Liz back to her and Kyle's place then and killed some time chatting. She made us a delicious dinner and shared some wine with us and I gave her a couple of birthday gifts I'd brought for her! No way I could wait until her actual birthday on the 4th. Lol

Once midnight hit, 7 Eleven's annual (I believe) free coffee week began! Liz, Kyle, Sean, and I used it as an excuse to go for a walk and got our free caffeine, as well as a couple of non-free treats, while we were out!

My sister had school in the morning so, once it got late, Sean and I got out of her hair and found parking on Mission St, not to far from a Shell station. We watched some movies for a bit then and finally decided to call it a night.

Day 6 - 10/3/16 (Hayward, Fremont,..):

In the morning, we were up at 9am. We drove to McDonald's to get a sausage burrito, a sausage biscuit, and a fountain drink (free with any purchase!). Then we used WiFi briefly at a Starbucks down the street before driving to a place called Hayward Plunge to use their big heated, indoor pool and showers! Their session times/hours they were open were extremely limited so we only had half an hour to swim and another 15 minutes to shower but it was enough and it was $4 each! We went in and splashed around in the pool a bit before showering. (Well, Sean did laps like you're supposed to but I kinda just splashed around. Lol)

We got a couple of pizza slices at 7 Eleven next and then went driving around, kinda just exploring the area and seeing what there was to see.

In one neighborhood, we spotted a few people standing in the road, huddled, poking something with a stick. We soon realized it was a tarantula! Worried for its safety, we pulled to the side of the road and ran over. Turned out they were just trying to get him out of the road but none of them were comfortable picking him up. I snatched him up without a second thought and ran him up a nearby hill to drop him off and hopefully keep him out of harm's way.

We were in Fremont, CA then, a short distance (maybe 15 mins?) from Hayward. I remembered having played DDR at a couple of locations there so I decided to drive over to one of them and see what the place was now like a decade later. The place: Shaker's Pizza. To be honest, I didn't remember much about the place other than the fact that I'd stopped in and played on a DDR Extreme machine there once. Someone had deleted the location from ddrfreak though, quite likely long ago, but we went for a look anyway. Unsurprisingly, the machine was gone now but we had a look around and got some pics. At least they still had some other games and they were still in business!

As we were driving away from Shaker's Pizza, Sean spotted a persimmon tree growing over someone's fence, hanging over a sidewalk! Persimmons are my favorite fruit so I pulled over right away and went with him to fill a bag up! After that, it was about 1 minute before started munching our findings. Haha

I was feeling like we were somehow coincidentally ending up in all the right places at all the right times. While we were sitting in the car after persimmon-collecting, we heard something rustling in nearby foliage and went over for a look. It wasn't long before we spotted an opposum trotting. I went after him, unsure how fast he'd run away and what to expect when it turned out he wasn't getting away, and he just continued to trot til I got in front of him. Then he froze, motionless, and kind of played dead, as they are so well known to do. Despite being motionless, his face was snarled and I'm sure he was hissing at me. Nevertheless, I couldn't help petting him and picking him up for awhile. He was cute in a kind of ugly way that I guess I couldn't resist. Haha Finally, however, I let him go again and he trotted off under a little building nearby.

We were still at a loss as to where to go so I drove til I found some wetlands place still in or near Fremont, I believe, called Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. We stopped there to walk a short trail and enjoyed some nice, peaceful views along the way. We saw various birds, some white-shelled snails that liked to climb up tall grasses and other plants, colorful plants in and around the water.. By the end of the trail, we thought we'd seen it all there. We got in the car and drove a little further just to be sure but were greeted just beyond a little hill by seemingly neverending landscape like that we'd just seen except huge and running all the way to the bay, broken up with interesting structures here and there. There weren't enough places to stop let alone time in the world to capture everything but we did what we could. At one point, we even spotted a shabby, simple boat floating in some water and pulled over to hop in for a minute.

The sun was getting lower and we decided to move on. Headed out, however, I spotted what I was sure was a dead fox on the side of the road. I know it's a bit odd but I stopped for a better look. I don't think I'd ever seen a fox up close. It's fur was so pretty! So sad seeing it like that. :(

Definitely not inspired by the dead fox, we were hungry then so we stopped in a parking lot with Taco Bell and Burger King, got both, and ate in the car while watching a movie.

Liz called us during the movie to gel us she'd gotten off work. We went to meet her at her place and spent the rest of the night there. At midnight, it was her birthday!! The guys hung out on the balcony while she and I shared wine, she gave me a haircut (which was surprisingly good!) and played around with my hair for a bit, we chatted, we made quesadillas for everyone, and we ended the night with a silly movie called Sisters. Finally, Sean, Kyle, Liz, and I all fell asleep in one bed but not before all but Kyle juuuuust made it through the movie!

Day 7 - 10/4/16 (Liz's Birthday):

It took us all quite a few hours to get going this morning but we finally all got ready made it out of the apartment to start celebrating Liz's birthday. We didn't get far at first though. We got our 7 Eleven free coffees down the street to start and munched some extremely tasty tacos at a place not much further down that Liz and Kyle recommended. Bellies nourished, it was time to make a late start towards the highlight of the day:

I'd found a Groupon deal for the Winchester Mystery House. Liz's and my mom had mentioned the place to us on various occasions but we'd never been so we jumped at the chance today. We booked our Groupon deals before leaving the apartment and then drove over after tacos. Less than 40 minutes later, I believe it was, we were walking into the gift shop to look around til it was time for our tour! Then we spent a little over an hour exploring all the strange and breathtaking attributes the house had to offer as a guide took a group of us through seemingly endless rooms and corridors there. We weren't allowed pictures in the house but I got what I could to remember the place by and then browsed the gift shop with our group after.

Down the street from the Winchester Mystery House was a fancy outdoor mall. We went there next and walked around looking in a couple of various stores while playing Pokémon Go and catching Pikachus!

Kyle still needed to pay a visit to his co-worker's dog so we all drove there next and Kyle walked the dog while Liz did homework and shared some beers and TV time with us inside the house.

We'd ordered a pizza to share from a place down the street from Kyle's co-worker's place so we picked that up before heading back to Hayward, stopped in a liquor store for additional snacks and alcohol, and then made it back to the apartment to hang out and eat with some movies til finally falling asleep.

Day 8 - 10/5/16:

Liz had to get to school in the morning so we exchanged some last hugs and  saw her off. Then Sean and I got washed up, said goodbye to Kyle, and took off as well. We needed to start driving south to visit more family.

We got gas on the way out of the area, got on the freeway, and drove to my grandma's house. We spent maybe 5 hours there hugging, catching up, exchanging foods we had for each other, gardening.. She made us some really good soup and sent us away with, amongst lots of other things, tons of apples and persimmons we picked from her yard for ourselves and to take to share with family. Sean helped her with some yard work as well but a little after 8pm it was finally time for us to go.

We drove to Merced to meet up with my mom and youngest 2 siblings. They ended up being busy when we arrived, however, so Sean and I killed some time walking around Main Street. I showed Sean all the most interesting places there, shared all the most memorable memories I had from there with him, and had a look at five ten bistro, where I'd be having my high school reunion a few days later.

After that, we went to the car to give each other a hand.. lol

When my family freed up, we drove down V St to meet them at their friend Paul's place. He, my mom, and we had all saved things for one another so we made some great exchanges before eating a bit more and hanging out together til it was time to call it a night. We all had kind of a sleep over there but Sean and I stayed in our car. Hey, our car is actually pretty cozy now!

Day 9 - 10/6/16 (Jamestown, Sonora):

We'd stayed up pretty late so we didn't wake up til noon today. By then, Juliet was the only other person left there at Paul's. Sean and I went inside to hang out with her and make some food. She sang us some Japanese anime songs while we ate including a song called Torinouta that I used to play on ITG!

Some time after my mom got back, I showed her how to get and use the 7 Eleven app on her phone so she could get free coffee for free coffee week. Then she, my siblings, Sean, and I drove to 7 Eleven for free coffee.

I'd wanted to show Sean a little town called Jamestown slightly more than an hour away so I drove him there next. I only vaguely remembered the place from my younger years but I thought it'd be cool to revisit now that I'm old enough to appreciate it and have a husband to share it with. The route took us through Snelling, where I'd taken him a visit or two prior. On the way, we spotted a horse behind a fence near the road and stopped to feed it some off brand fig newtons. It didn't love them but it ate them!

In Jamestown, we parked in front of one of their Main St hotels and walked up and down the street seeing all there was to see on that stretch of road. We peeked in shops there and I showed Sean the tiny "park" with the pretty gazebo right in the middle of it all. There, we saw a sign for the Railtown 1897 State Historic Park and decided to follow the trail up for a look! It was definitely worth the trek as it was the home of many famous movie trains and film location of many movie train scenes - most importantly, in my opinion, Back to the Future III. Still, it was a bit of a distance from Main St so Sean and I decided to jog there to get there faster and get a little workout while at it. We had a good look around when we arrived. The museum was closed for the day but we got pics and vids of all the trains and everything that WAS out for us to see before jogging back to the car a little before sunset.

Another town called Sonora was only about 3 miles from Jamestown so we went to look around there next. It was dark when we parked and many shops were closed but much of the place was still lively enough and was quite reminiscent of Old Sacramento.

Once we'd had an up-close look at the train engine on display at the Sonora welcome sign and walked all around downtown Sonora, we felt we'd done enough exploring and we got on the road back to Merced.

Our family was busy when we got into Merced again so Sean and I killed some time by getting some Mexican food to share at Victoria's on R St (long ago Rally's, I believe) and chasing it down with free drinks from 7 Eleven.

We met back up with the family at Paul's shortly after that and spent the rest of the night getting work done on our computers and phones, cashing in merchandise credit we'd earned for our Spartan Race volunteering, watching movies, and making it to sleep sometime after 5am.

Day 10 - 10/7/16:

Sean and I were up at 10am today. We ate, got our 7 Eleven freebies, and stopped by the 99 Cent Store to pick up lots of supplies with the family. Mom and Jarod went off to handle some things after that. Juliet, Sean, and I caught up shortly after, only stopping for a moment to pick up a few quick items we spotted while driving by neighborhood yard sales.

As the afternoon came to a close, we made our way to Lake Yosemite with our 99 Cent Store supplies to finally get started on my big plan for the day: take the family for a BBQ and go for a dip there with Sean! I wasn't sure whether they'd be charging when we arrived but the gate wasn't manned so we got in free. We chose a table in the area my school had brought us to when I went on a school trip in 5th grade, I believe it was, near the little basketball court. We set up and BBQ's some tasty hot dogs, sausages, and chili. We ate up and then Sean and I took our food-filled bellies into the lake for a dip! Not sure if it was time of year, if I'm just remembering it being a little cleaner, or if a lot just changes in 20 or so years but the water seemed a lot grosser than I'd remembered it in 5th grade. That's okay though. We still waded around in it for a good while and I think Sean even plunged in completely! There were huge schools of fish swimming all around in the water. So fast! The water was a little cold but we soon got used to it and had fun horseplaying in it for awhile as the sun began to set. Finally, we got cleaned up, got some amazing pics of the sunset, packed up, and took off. My family headed one way, Sean and I headed another.

Sean and I had bought a Groupon deal for a couple of haunted attractions in Snelling, CA so we drove there for those next. They actually had quite a few scary attractions set up at the time but we stuck with the two we'd already paid for: a haunted house and a walking ghost tour. We did the haunted house first and were not disappointed! It started us off with a bridge walkway through a cylinder of lights rotating around us. Walking in a perfectly straight line, we became completely disoriented and could hardly keep our balance. Plenty of other quality scares followed as well as a moment of pitch black, which I'm terrible at. I think the moment that stood out the most there, however, was when we found ourselves in a room surrounded by several doors and numerous monsters closing in. We had to find the correct door under pressure and go through before it was too late! Whew. It was no small haunted house either. They'd put effort into every bit of it and had us winding around through it for a good amount of time. DEFINITELY got our money's worth. The ghost tour was a lot more mellow, just walking around the area behind the other attractions with occasional spooky props poking up in the distance or creeps in costume sneaking up to scare us. Still, the whole event was all-in-all impressively done, especially considering the remote location.

When we were done there, Sean and I made the drive back to Paul's to meet up with family for a bit. Then, we got some sleep in a side room Paul had made space for us in.

Day 11 - 10/8/16 (10 Year High School Reunion):

In the morning, Mom and Jarod went to go feed a friend's cats. Juliet, Sean, and I hung out at Paul's with him and watched some movies. Sean and I got some work done at the same time til Paul had to leave to get to work at noon.

I wanted to show Sean Merced's swap meet (G St & Child's Ave area) that I worked at for a short when I was 15 so I took him and Juliet with me and we went for a look. It was very similar to Vegas' swap meet but much smaller so we didn't buy anything other than a big horchata with strawberries, cantelope, and nuts in it to share but for an admission fee of only $0.50 per person it was definitely worth it just to have a look around.

We went to 7 Eleven for free coffee week coffees to caffeinate us before Sean and I used Paul's hose to get all spiffy clean for my 10 year high school reunion later in the evening. Don't judge us! It was a damn nice day out and playing in the water in the hot sun felt totally awesome. Besides, I was sparkling clean and smooth as a baby's butt by the end of it. Lol After that, we put on a movie while we got dressed and I did my makeup. My mom got back to Paul's with Jarod during all of this and took some pics of the finished product once we were finally all put together. Then we were on our way!

A short drive later, we arrived at five ten bistro. It was all decorated and ready for the combined GVHS/MHS Class of 2006 10 year high school reunion. The area they'd reserved for us was much smaller than I'd anticipated, as was the turnout, but it was cool. Included with our tickets, we got to enjoy a drink each and some pretty scrumptious hors d'oeuvres. We chowed down pretty much first thing but then got around to looking for familiar faces and catching up with my old friends. Most of them found me, actually. I remembered most of the ones I spoke with and a couple I didn't, recognized but couldn't place a few others who said hi, and couldn't remember most of the rest of the people there but assumed we'd either never spoken or that they were from Merced High, rather than Golden Valley, as it was a combined reunion. Of those who came up and said hi to me, I hardly had to introduce Sean at all. Nearly all of them had been following our adventures on Facebook and were well aware of who he was and what we'd been up to. That made things easy! In seconds, it was like no time had passed at all, really. Most of the people there still lived in Merced or nearby, though some (such as Kevin Benson, who'd moved to Dallas) had moved a bit farther. Most of the people I'd remembered from school didn't turn up, perhaps because they'd moved farther or maybe they just couldn't be bothered, but it was nice enough to see those who did and hear what they'd been up to this past decade! To name just a few of the most memorable faces, some of the attendees included:

-Melissa. She'd played bass drum with me on the drum line at Weaver in 8th grade and we'd been close when we lived in the same trailer park. We talked for quite awhile, caught up, and introduced our husbands to each other.

-Kevin. He'd also been in drums with Melissa and me and was probably my biggest academic rival at Weaver in 8th grade. We spoke briefly tonight and he told me he'd moved to Dallas and become and firefighter!

-June. I guess I never told her but I used to have a little thing for her. We spent awhile chatting tonight and she told me she used to bump uglies with a different girl I almost had a thing with who went by Spider. I'd suspected as much back in the day, which was part of why I gave up on them both, but I'd never minded really! Tonight, June, Sean, and I just talked about traveling for awhile. Turns out June had gotten out and traveled quite a bit just like us! Pretty cool and definitely different from most Mercedians!

-Jessica. I'm not sure she and I had ever spoken til tonight but we recognized each other and realized Spider had been our mutual friend. I think I'd always remembered her as June's short-haired friend, just because we hadn't really spoken. We changed that tonight though and she turned out to be just as cool and no I'd thought she might be!

-Kelly. I'd been on a basketball team with her at Weaver in 8th grade. We didn't chat much tonight but said hi.

-Morgan, Ginnie, Barbara.. I don't think any of them spoke to me much or at all tonight, save for maybe a hello from one, but they all looked just the way they did 10 years prior! :D

-Marinna, Rocio, Tasha, Serena. A few of the ones here I probably spoke with more than most and some of whom I was pretty close to back in the day! They were still being awesomely loyal Cali girls, keeping my home state warm for me, though some had done some adventuring and even moved out of Merced. They were all looking young as ever and were just as fun (and funny!) to talk to as they'd always been. Really looking forward to seeing these ladies, Melissa, and others at our 20 year reunion but I hope it doesn't take another 10 years for us to make time and chat again!

There were several more I didn't mention here but I hope you guys know I didn't forget you and that it was super amazing seeing you all!

I loved getting to see how old friends had shaped their lives, hearing about their successes, getting to share a couple of stories myself. I think the most wonderful part of tonight for me, however, was getting to share another huge piece of my youth with Sean and getting to introduce him to a few of the people I spent daily time with during those years. It WAS exhausting though so, once things started really winding down after group pictures and several hours of socializing, Sean and I finally snuck away.

We made one more stop at 7 Eleven for drinks for the night before getting a call from Mom asking if we wanted to join her and our family friend Maggie at a bar called Kewl Cats. Why not?! So we drove over just to hang out and listen to my mom's friend who was playing in a band there and hang out for a bit. We chilled towards the back of the place, just enjoying the music and talking a bit. There were some dart boards and pool tables there so Sean played a game of pool with Maggie while Mom and I watched. At the end of the night, Maggie sent us off with belated wedding gifts for Liz and Kyle, since we'd likely see them again before she would, and then we said goodbye and headed back to Paul's with my mom. Finally, around 3am, Sean and I got around to sleeping.

Day 12 - 10/9/16 (Juliet to Vegas):

I was up at 9am. Mom took my siblings to church and Paul left for work but Sean and I stayed behind and got ready to leave town. When my family got back, Juliet, Jarod, Sean, and I put a bit of board up together to fix a part of Paul's ceiling.

Sean and I would be leaving back to Vegas shortly but were planning to be back in Cali again a week later. Of my immediate family members, only my sister Liz had ever seen my house. I decided maybe it was time to change that. It'd be a few hours out of our way to bring someone back up to Merced the following week but for a week of quality time together I figured it'd be worth it. I told me mom and siblings I could make room in the car if anyone wanted to come to Vegas and Sean and I ended up taking Juliet with us.

Before leaving Merced, we all stopped for a peek in an anime store Jarod had wanted to show us near Save More and Rollen Donuts. We didn't stay long though. We just had a quick look before exchanging lots of hugs and driving back to Vegas with Juliet in the back seat.

We got gas at a Pilot gas station in Madera, $0.03/gallon off for using their free membership card!

In Fresno, we stopped to use a Groupon deal we had to get food at Rally's.

We took another little break after Bakersfield when we got to Murray Family Farms. We took Juliet for some fruit and other samples inside and to feed and pet some goats outside.

Shortly after that, we got gas at Love's in Tehachapi.

At the Shell Station in Nipton, we stopped in for jerky samples and a look around.

We snuck Juliet into Gold Spike in Jean, NV for a quick look at the casino and now dance-game-free arcade.

Shortly after that, we were in Vegas! We got some free chili cheese fries at Del Taco, our last free hot beverages at 7 Eleven, and finally made it home again.

Halloween 2016: Broken Foot & Surgery, Pumpkinman 5k on 10/22/16, Uship Mini Trip, Everything 80's Party, Fetish & Fantasy Halloween Ball, etc!

Broken Foot:

Monday night, 10/17/16, I was in my backyard in the dark and ended up falling into my empty swimming pool towards the shallow end. I landed on and broke the 5th metatarsal on my left foot. It hurt like hell when it happened and immediately swelled up and began bruising like crazy on both the top and bottom of my foot. The pain dissipated fairly quickly, however. I couldn't walk on my foot because it all felt wrong and extremely painful when I tried but I'd had something similar happen when I'd played football with Sean, Liz's Kyle, and a couple of other guys earlier in the year. The only differences were that the football injury didn't cause bruising on the bottom of my foot and the pain was a bit less sharp. Still, I hoped this was a sprain and waited it out for a day to try and figure out one way or another for myself. I realized the next night that I probably needed to have it looked at and went into the UMC Quick Care on Nellis to discover the frustrating truth. They x-rayed my foot. My bone was snapped in half and sticking upward. They wrapped my foot up in a soft cast, gave me crutches, and referred me elsewhere for surgery, which was apparently important if I wanted short recovery time and to be sure it healed properly.

A lot of hassle followed that. I was given the run around and forced to deal with a week of insurance issues, constantly calling one number after another just to find a way to get my foot fixed without spending an arm and a leg to do it. (Lol) Quick care had written me a referral for podiatry, which my insurance doesn't cover, so I had to go back in and get a referral to see an orthopedic doctor instead. Later, I got a call from Urgent Care saying they'd given me the original copy and forgotten to take a copy for themselves. I had to scan and email them a copy. I was then, after a couple of days and countless phone calls, referred to someone who wouldn't even be back in Vegas til mid November. I had to make more phone calls to sort that out only to be told that my only other option was to see an orthopedic surgeon who the quick care had gotten to agree to give me a free consult but who could not accept my insurance if he found that I required surgery. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went online to research orthopedic surgeons who took my insurance and found EIGHTY results. I began calling numbers but struggled to get past voice mails and hold lines to speak with an actual person. When I finally did, I was told that, although they accepted my insurance, they could not accept ME. Their reason: my referral was written by the wrong place and, according to them, I could not have a new one written anywhere else. I was told that orthopedic doctors required, without exception, referrals from primary care doctors prior to seeing patients. Unfortunately, these referrals  could only be written by the particular primary care doctor that an orthopedic doctor had some sort of agreement with and the one I'd visited didn't have that sort of agreement with any orthopedic doctors who accepted my insurance and were available. Additionally, I was told that after having my foot looked at by one primary care facility, I wouldn't be able to have it seen elsewhere to get the appropriate referral to be seen by someone who might actually be available to help me and who would accept my insurance. I spent some time feeling frustrated and defeated before it occurred to me to call my insurance directly. By that point, they were closed for the weekend so it wasn't until the following Monday that I was able to get through to anyone. Once I did though, it was less than half an hour til I had an appointment booked to be seen by an orthopedic doctor the following day! I went in and spent a few hours getting x-rays (which looked exactly the same as those from the week prior) done, doing all the paperwork and other preliminary bits, and finally setting up an appointment for surgery the following Monday, Oct 31st (Halloween morning), two weeks after the date I'd first broken my foot. I was actually in favor of just getting a cast or doing something that seemed less drastic than surgery but the doctor who saw me, Dr. Watson, advised otherwise. He said that when he first started as a doctor, he didn't always used to do surgeries on breaks like mine but that the broken bones didn't always heal correctly and took 6 months to heal when they did heal. Now, he always opts to give his patients surgery in cases like mine since, according to him, the surgery only takes 20 minutes and the bones heal much more quickly and more reliably correctly. Anyway, they gave me a funny, protective boot to wear in place of a shoe on my foot and got my surgery scheduled for Halloween day. The boot would've cost me $434. Luckily, insurance covered it but still...that's a ridiculous price and such a waste of taxpayer dollars.

I had to do a lot of running around in preparation for my surgery. I had to get bloodwork done, pick up prescriptions for things I'd need starting right after surgery, go to my pre-op appointment, do lots of paperwork, make a few calls,..but it was worth it! My upcoming, month long Eurotrip complicated things a bit, especially because of the increased risk of blood clots while flying at all, let alone transatlantic. I was adamant about keeping my trip as scheduled though. (I'd paid a lot of money and spent TONS of time arranging it.) Accordingly, the doctor prescribed me blood thinners in addition to antibiotics and pain killers and told me to make sure I didn't sit still for more than an hour during flights.

So I'd broken my foot the same night I was looking into races to do in Europe. I was going to register us the following night to run 4 or 5 of them but after breaking my foot I figured I'd needed to wait to see how long it'd be til I could run again. I managed to get surgery scheduled for Halloween morning, Oct 31st. I won't be able to walk on or put any pressure on my foot for 6 weeks. I left to Europe on Nov 3rd and will be gone for about 5 weeks so pretty much the entire time I can't walk is while I'm in Europe. I'll be going to England, Scotland, Athens, Milan, Venice. Our entire Venice trip is scheduled on foot as there are no roads or cars in Venice and the only transit is by boat or foot. Well, this should be super fun. On the bright side, at least my foot will get better!

Pumpkinman 5k - 10/22/16:

As soon as I got home from the doctor the first night, Tuesday, I sent an email to BBSC about their upcoming Pumpkinman race on Saturday. I'd booked Sean and me to run the race 6 months prior, Sean in the 10k and me in the 5k, but I was obviously no longer in any condition to run on Saturday. They replied unfavorably, however. They informed me that, per their refund policy, they could not refund me, allow me transfer my entry to the same race the following year or any other race, or allow anyone else to run in my place despite the extenuating circumstances.

Race day finally arrived and I spent over 2 hours getting ready. After seeing the Suicide Squad movie months prior, there was no question what I was going to be. Enchantress was such a badass! So dark and creepy. I love The Joker and Harley Quinn and either of them would be my normal choice but I had to go with Enchantress this time. I'd spent a little time maybe a week prior to today making my own little version of an Enchantress costume and today was the day to debut it!

Sean had opted to be a banana this time and slipped into the banana costume we had once we were ready to go.

Danny had offered to join me and keep me company during my 5k. So sweet!

Around 7am, we were all ready and driving to Boulder City for the race. We found some parking and made our way to the race start. (Honestly, not an easy feat tor me by any means.) I had a lot of comments from people who were shocked but encouraging when they realized I was "racing" on crutches. I think "inspiring" was the word I heard most. It was definitely flattering and appreciated but I wondered if knowing that my main motivation was being to cheap to skip out on nom-refundale race entry would've changed their perspective at all. Lol

Anyway, the race got started and Sean ran off in the 10k. 5k started at the same time and it wasn't long before everyone from both races had vanished into the distance ahead of Danny and me. He stayed with me, chatting with me, keeping me company, and making sure I was okay for an entire 1.5 hours til I made it back to the finish! Since the out and back race had quite a few distances and events, including sprint and Olympic triathlon distances, there were people coming and going and passing and coming back continuously and, luckily, it meant that everyone wasn't just sitting around waiting for me to finish.

We'd run into JJ and Jenn (his girlfriend) with their dogs before the start of the race. JJ was there to run the 10k and Jenn was there to cheer him on. During the race, JJ was unsurprisingly the first 10k runner coming back from the turnaround. He greeted us and then ran on to win the race. We saw Sean in his banana suit not too long after. He ran on to finish the race, placing 2nd in his age group, and then came back to join Danny and me as I finished up my 5k. It was tough as hell and took an absolute lifetime but it all paid off in the end. Everyone cheered me through the finish as I hobbled down the home stretch til I was rewarded with a medal, beverages, and other treats! They even had free snacks, food, and beer for us! We fattened and recouped a bit but soon it was time for awards and the costume contest. Obviously, I hadn't won any place awards. I'd meant for this to be one of my most special races of the year. I'd meant to train hard and beast it and, from the looks of it, I would've had a great chance of placing. (I didn't check the results but Sean and I saw the 5k runners and had a good idea of where I would've come in.) Sean got a nice certificate for placing 2nd in his age group though and we both got costume contest prizes! Honestly, only 3 of us dressed up for the contest - Sean in a banana costume, a girl in a some Halloween get up (maybe shirt and hat and other bits?), and me dressed as Enchantress. When it came to a crowd vote, I got the most cheers by far but I'm pretty sure it was just the handicap vote. Lol When the announcer asked a kid who he'd pick though, he chose Sean. I don't blame him! I'd put in wayyyy too much effort and, though my costume was cool, Sean was hilarious in his banana costume. It was so simple but so good! Regardless, they rewarded all 3 of us with identical goody bags. Yay!

Sean and I entered a raffle to win free entry to a New Years race called the Resolution Run. Sean won! I got him all registered at home later. I wanted to register myself as well but I wasn't sure my foot would be fixed in time for the race. Guess we'll see!

Not everything at the race was about the so-called swag, however. Before leaving, Sean and I decided to try a pull-up challenge taking place there on some thin pvc piping. We each got just under half the current record for our gender but I'm happy enough with that!

All done at the race, we drove over to the Hoover Dam Lodge for our last freebie: a beer each at the bar! Then we got some Panda Express, drove home, and watched movies while eating til Sean and I passed out on the couch.

From my prior post about the race:

Hardest 5k ever but I managed to hobble my way to the finish! Thanks to freakin everyone for cheering me on and keeping me going!! Thanks so much to Danny for coming out to walk with me and keep me company for the whole race and to Sean for coming back to walk with me after placing 2nd in his age group in the 10k!! <3 Sean and I got costume contest prizes too. Got free finish line beers and treats and even did a fun pull-up contest. :D 1st and hopefully last race I'll ever do on crutches but definitely made the most of it!

Uship Roadtrip ~Riverside to Tonopah:

We were soooo busy with Halloween stuff, my broken foot, and getting ready for our Eurotrip but we still had to make some money so I got us a couple of Uship bookings and went to pick them up in southern California. It was a quick trip, lots of driving but not much time for stopping. We got to see a couple of things though. First, we picked up some letters, presumably for a store front, from a residence in Fontana, CA. Then, we picked up a wardrobe or armoire from a residence in Riverside, CA. We drove both back to Vegas, got a good night's sleep at home, and went to deliver the letters to a car dealership on the northeast side of Vegas. Next stop was Tonopah, NV. We drove the armoire there, dropped it off, and then finally had a bit of a breather for brief sightseeing. We looked around the town a bit, visited the graveyard near the Clown Motel there, and started homeward. We saw lots of donkeys grazing in nearby fields on the way and detoured a few miles when we got to Beatty, NV to have a peek at Rhyolite. There wasn't much to see of the ghost town, especially as we'd arrived in the pitch black of night and there was no light in sight other than that from our car. The ruins of a few old buildings were plenty to offer us a few pre-Halloween chills though. Would be an amazingly creepy place to try and spend the night at sometime!

Everything 80's Party 10/28/16:

Sean and I had bought tickets to the Fetish and Fantasy Halloween Ball months back. Just a few days ago, we received emails saying that not only would our tickets get us entry to the ball and the associated Lifestyles Expo but that the organizers had arranged for us to get free entry to ANOTHER Halloween party called the Everything 80's Party tonight 10/28/16 at Vanity nightclub at Hard Rock Casino. SO, we dressed up - Sean as a bottle of Jose Cuervo and me as a vampire - and headed over! In addition to free admission, we all got a free with entry. Then Sean and I spent the night dancing to the best and worst 80's music and enjoying the crazy costumes we saw everyone in. They had a costume contest at one point. We weren't up for getting competitive with it this year as contest - winning costumes tend to consume the night and I was having a hard enough time with my broken foot. It was awesome to watch the contest though and laugh at all the funny costumes. There was a Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump giant head duo, Chewbacca, Medusa, the MTV astronaut,.. So may great costumes! The real highlight of the night, other than spending it with my favorite husband :p, was the music! Complete with music videos, they played pretty much every awful song I ever heard in my 4.5 years or so working at Moneytree but they also played tons of incredibly epic songs like Come On Feel the Noise by Quiet Riot, Billy Idol (can't remember which song(s)), and, most importantly, You Got It (the Right Stuff) by NKOTB!!! I absolutely freaked, squealing my head off and scaring half the people in the building, when NKOTB came on! I couldn't help myself. Definitely my first time dancing to NKOTB - my all-time favorite band - in a nightclub! Wow.. By the end of the night, I'm pretty sure we'd danced off every drop off alcohol we'd had during the night. Time to grab some Del Taco and head home to party even harder the next night!

Lifestyles Expo & Fetish and Fantasy 10/29/16:

Today was a day I'd been waiting for a lot of years now - a day Sean and I had decided to finally make happen this year and had paid a total of $130 for. (That was actually the early bird price we got them for about 3 months prior.) Today, we were going to attend the Fetish and Fantasy Halloween Ball for the first time!..Info here: http://www.fetishandfantasyhalloweenball.com

But, before the ball, it was time for the Lifestyles Expo! Included in the price of our Fetish & Fantasy tickets and also at the Hard Rock, the lifestyles expo was an adult convention where dildos, bondage gear, costumes, whips, and other naughty and even quite unique things were offered for sale. Taking place in one small (for the event type) room with only one or two scantily clad people present, it was SO much smaller and more innocent than I'd anticipated but still had just as many neat things as I'd expected. The best of these was were not necessarily adults items. They were hats! Amazingly whimsical, fantastic, unique, incredible hats! Other things I found particularly worth mentioning were male chastity "belts"/devices and a big, X-shaped, bondage cross primarily made of wood. (Sean promised to make the latter of these for me at home one day.) There were lots of other neat things I'm forgetting or failing to mention here but as there were probably under 30 - perhaps even just 20 - stalls, Sean and I were finished looking around within about half an hour.

Back home, Sean and I used our day in a number of ways til it was finally time to prepare for the long-awaited ball. I spent a couple of hours trying to perfect my Enchantress look for the night and Sean got ready in a funny hat and towel costume with bonus marker drawings on his chest in a matter of minutes. LOL He's such a goof! Once we were all dressed up, we went to the ball with some rum to keep our bodies warm and spirits high!

I think it was around midnight when we arrived at the 10:30pm-4am ball. There was a long line from the event entry all the way to the parking lot but it was moving quickly and some fun, foreign girls ahead of us gave me tacos while I waited! (Yes, actual tacos. They'd bought some to eat on the way in but got full and gave me the rest. Lucky me!)

Like the expo earlier, the ball was a lot more wholesome than I'd anticipated. Though a majority were scarier, funnier, and/or more Halloween themed, they were really no more revealing or sexy than anything you'd see at EDC. There was a stage called Zoo where women in g-strings, pasties, and body paint pranced around a guy in a flap and body paint. Other than that, the naughtiest thing there was the bondage, spanking stage. They had quite a few of the crosses we'd seen at the expo earlier on this stage and they'd employed people to spank you with whips and torture and tease anyone who was game in similar ways all night. There was a long, slow, ongoing line for this that Sean and I joined at one point. We waited, grabbing a few candies from a stage-adjacent plastic cauldron and dancing together almost the whole time to pass the time waiting. At one point though, another foreign girl, I think she was, with her group of friends in line near us started complimenting my costume and my looks and flirting with me hardcore. It's all kind of a blur now but I vaguely remember quite enthusiastically making out with her for some minutes before it was my turn on stage. Then I was escorted up the stairs to the stage and to one of the crosses by a guy who went by Sir Pent. He then proceeded to tie me up to the cross, one limb extended down each leg of the "X", before whipping me til I had bruises on my butt. Descending from the stage after my session, I got to watch Sean receive his punishment from a lady just as rough as Sir Pent had been before coming to join me.

Exploring the place, Sean and I found a few separate rooms to dance and party in. One room was VIP only but it looked small and honestly no more fun than the other two rooms and the rest of the place was fair game! We wandered between the other rooms and the upstairs area of one of the rooms, dancing the night away, boot grinding and getting down! Lol The music started pretty good but got progressively more mediocre as the night progressed but I'd say it was pretty average by the end of the night. Could've been worse!

I got a lot of compliments on my costume throughout the night, had a lot of people recognize it, got a few winks while I was dancing with Sean, and had a couple of people show me pictures they'd taken of me while I was getting spanked. Lol Honestly though, I was just another face in the big crowd and there were a lot more exciting costumes than mine getting a lot more attention. I didn't really think about any of that at all til waking up the next day though. At the time, I was just in the moment, dancing with my sexy husband and making sure he didn't get stolen from me! I can't speak for him but, despite all the sexy costumes we saw, there was no one I wanted more than him there that night. I spent a good long while feverously making out with him as if it were our first week together all over again. It was crazy but amazing! Despite the whole event being more tame than I'd planned for, I had just as much fun as I'd hoped for and ended up going home with the best looking guy in the place! :D

Surgery & Halloween 10/31/16:

I had my foot surgery with Dr. Watson this morning. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink even a tiny sip of water after midnight the night prior, I had to remove all jewelry and piercings (though I couldn't remove EVERYTHING), other stuff. So much prep! My appointment was at 8am for 10:15am surgery. There was a lot they needed to do once I was there but they made a start pretty much right away and before I knew it I was kissing Sean goodbye as he wished me luck on my way into surgery. What felt like moments later, I was regaining consciousness, though feeling pretty woozy, in recovery. I'd put plastic piercing retainers in a few of my piercing holes but found, once I woke up post surgery, the ones in my tongue and nipples had been removed during surgery. The tongue ring had apparently been because I'd ended up choking on it when the anesthesiologist had put a tube down my throat - a misunderstanding as I'd been made to believe I was only supposed to remove all metals and didn't realize anything would be stuck down my throat. Not sure why the nipple piercing retainers had been tampered with and others hadn't but I assume it's to do with other, various things they had to put on or do with my body to keep me safe during surgery. When I awoke in recovery, I was really out of it at first and some of my interactions with the nurses are a bit hazy but I remember I was in a fair deal of pain, abour 3.5/10, and was offered a painkiller or two. I took one and was soon closer to about 2 or 2.5/10. The patient one curtain over from me wasn't quite so lucky though. She was thrashing around a bit and moaning and told the nurses she was having 9/10 pain. Of course, they fixed her up before sending her on her way. Shortly after that, they put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me over to see Sean who was being instructed as to how to care for me during my recovery! <3 Then, they rolled me out to the car and Sean drove me home! Well, he took me for a few errands I needed and wanted to run first but then we headed right home!

Crunched for time before our upcoming Eurotrip, we spent most of today working at home. We eventually went out for a couple more things though including burritos from Chipotle for $3 each to people in costume! Of course, that was us. :D This time, Sean was a whoopie cuchion and I was a banana. Lol I love our costume collection! Anyway, we each got a HUGE Chipotle burrito and took them home to eat while watching scary movies. Then we colored some Halloween-appropriate adult (FOR adults - not porn!) coloring pages I'd found us through Google, had a little rum, snacked on some candy, and carved a pumpkin Sean had bought me from the 99 Cent Store a day or two prior. (The next day, I even baked the pumpkin seeds with salt as a snack to take on our upcoming trip. Delicious!) Then, I gave Sean a very happy ending to his Halloween night with a nice lonnnng massage to thank him for taking such good care of me. (Probably rubbing him raw by this point in the past week or so though.. xD) Put him right to sleep!

Post-Op:

Two days after surgery, I had my post-op appointment. They'd wanted to schedule me for a later date but I'd be leaving the country the following day so this was the best we could do. They did a few things for me like change my foot wrappings and take new x-rays. In the x-rays, I could see the 2 pins/screws holding my bone in place. The bone was now almost perfectly in place and should stay that way as long as I keep all pressure off of it for 6 weeks. I had big, ugly stitches in my foot and the outside of my heel to show for it and there was a hole in my heel bone where they'd done bone grafting, I think it's called, to fix my foot. That would mostly all heal with hopefully minimal scarring though.

Juliet's 1st Vegas Trip & I Love The 90's Concert in Paso Robles, CA 10/10/16 - 10/16/16

Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, Kid N' Play, Color Me Badd, All-4-One, Young MC

-------------------------------------------------

We didn't have a lot of free time during the week we had Julie in Vegas with us but we did our best to take care of all our responsibilities as well as show her a good time. Here's the gist of how the week went:

10/10/16:

Being our first day back, we stayed home working almost all day, movies playing as background noise the whole time.

At night, we finally made some time to get out of the house. We ran a couple of errands, took a drive up and down the strip to give Juliet a look at Vegas, and went to Longhorn for graveyard specials.

10/11/16:

We spent a lot of today running errands but made time to go to the $1 movies to watch the new Ghostbusters movie in the evening. Sean fell asleep halfway through the movie but Juliet and I enjoyed it.

10/12/16:

We hadn't exercised in awhile so we went to Sunset Park today for a jog. Sean and I did laps around the lake there after helping Juliet make a Pokémon Go account and leaving her to play on Sean's phone. Then we fed some bread we'd brought to geese, pigeons, and ducks there.

We drove to Pinball Hall of Fame after that and showed Juliet around there, PSG, and A Gamer's Paradise. Juliet and I mostly watched Sean play games in Pinball but we tried a couple machines ourselves. They both got some candy and we found lots of quarters on the floor and left in machines. I think we were only down a quarter when we left. PSG was looking good when we got in. It'd only just opened the only other time we'd been so it was much more set up this time. We said hi to Andy and then continued to A Gamer's Paradise where Juliet and I watched Sean play a couple of credits on another game. They had some newly added games this time, one of which was the game Sean played.

Juliet was in need of clothes so we drove to one of the Goodwill clearance centers in town then and looked for some essentials. We hadn't been to this location before. It was near the 15 freeway/Las Vegas Blvd, south of the strip.

Goodwill kinda took a lot out of us so we rewarded ourselves then with a trip to Chinatown. There, we let Juliet look around and got some snacks and treats in 99 Ranch Market. Juliet's favorite place there was the anime store inside the little shopping mall.

We drove home from Chinatown after that and played some Dance Maniax and Beatmania 4th Mix while cooking up a big roast dinner. Then we ate everything while watching movies.

10/13/16:

Almost all of today was spent working but in the evening we got Danny out with us and all went to Cici's for more pizza than any of us needed. Lol

Back home, I checked Facebook messenger and found out my ex had passed away. My LiveJournal post explaining:

I'm a mess! Apparently, Facebook has something called "New Message Requests" that I didn't notice til tonight. Going thru it, I found tons of messages that friends I had not yet added to Facebook had sent. One of these people was my 8th grade (and some of high school) sweetheart Alonso Estrada. He messaged me a year ago saying hi and congratulating me on my "successes". I didn't get the message til tonight. After reading it, I sent a reply saying I was sorry that I hadn't seen his message til now but hoped he was doing well. Then I went on his profile only to discover the awful news: he passed away this summer. I don't yet know why or how. He and I lost touch a long time ago. I always nagged him to be careful but only because I worried for him. I just hope he's in a better place now. Despite all the trouble he caused me in my younger years, he was a fun guy who I cared for deeply and he will be missed. RIP Alonso Estrada.

10/14/16:

Sean and I took Juliet downtown with us to see Fremont Street. We parked near our usual spot in a residential area on the east end and walked westward. We looked around Container Park, stopped to let Sean play a credit on a random game in the new arcade in Neonopolis, checked out some food festival thing they had branching off down a side street from the middle of the Fremont Street Experience, showed Juliet Slotzilla's ziplines, walked under the enormous TV overhead, and visited the California casino to play a little DDR. The machine they had this time was a Supernova. (Not sure which but it was either that or Extreme last time we visited.) The 2P's side wasn't registering coins properly when we arrived and the 1P pad was so frustratingly awful we could barely pass ANYTHING!

We went to Chinatown again after we were done on Fremont and got more snacks and drinks in 99 Ranch Market.

We wanted to stay out longer but we needed to get home to get some final things done before heading back to Cali. From Chinatown, we drove home and spent the rest of the night working, prepping food, and finally eating and watching movies til bed time.

10/15/16:

We finished packing today, loaded the car, and left the house at 3pm.

In Baker, CA, we exited the freeway to drive through town to give Juliet a quick look at the World's Tallest Thermometer.

We stopped in Barstow to show Juliet Barstow Station, get tea and coffee using a buy one get one free deal at McDonald's, and get some gas at Food 4 Less.

We passed through Delano, where Alonso Estrada had been shot and killed earlier this year, at 8:23pm.

We tried to show Juliet Bravo Farms but it was closed for the night when we arrived just after 9pm. She got a peek over the fence though.

In Fresno, traffic was shit. We had a short break there to use the second of 2 Rally's Groupon vouchers we had to get "dinner". Before leaving the area, we stopped at a a gas station called Fastrip where Sean and I fueled up and picked up mini bottles of Bacardi Oakheart and 99 Pineapple (1 of each at 2 for $2).

It was late when we finally made it to Merced but my family is used to being up all hours so my mom and Jarod greeted us upon arrival and stayed up for quite awhile with us.

Sean and I were in desperate need of exercise so we decided to go for a brief run not long after getting to town. My mom recommended the nearby Merced Regional Airport. Jarod opted to join us and the three of us drove over to run some laps around the oval drive at the front of the airport. I did 3.1 miles in 23:13 or less (not sure about timer stopping and starting on time) and was happy enough with that considering.

After the run, we drove back over to hang with Mom and Juliet and watch a little Back to the Future til Sean and I decided to call it a night and go to sleep in our car a little after 4:30am.

10/16/16:

Not long after waking up this morning, we were greeted by a cop who, I assume, had gotten a suspicious activity call about our car and had driven over to see what was up. Apparently, a lot of people dump vehicles where we'd parked and he'd thought we were ditching ours there too. Hell no!! In the end, he started talking to us about Spartan races and was actually pretty cool.

We hung with Paul and my family for half the day after that, eating, watching movies, exchanging goodies, listening to stories about my mom's upbringing and our family and family friends, and spending some quality time together.

Sean and I eventually had to get on the road to Paso Robles, CA around 3pm. We had a concert to get to! We exchanged lots of goodbye hugs and hit the road, taking the 99S to the 41W, I think it was, and only stopping at a place called Tachi Casino to establish that they didn't have free drinks or free play to offer us along the way. (They didn't.)

In Paso Robles, we found and parked at the Vino Robles Amphitheatre for the I Love the 90's concert they were hosting tonight! We pregamed in the car with our 99 pineapple thing, Bacardi Oakheart, and Captain Morgan Cannon Blast we'd brought from home. Then we went in and danced and sang the night away to Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loc, Kid N' Play, I Wanna Sex You Up by Color Me Badd, I Swear and I Can Love You Like That by All-4-One, Bust A Move by Young MC, and lots of other classic hits ALL LIVE!! :D Sooooo many great artists performing for us in one place in one night...We were overwhelmed by the awesomeness! We were dancing to everything, booty grinding, horseplaying, slow dancing to All-4-One, rapping (horribly, mind you) to Vanilla Ice,... Sadly, Vanilla Ice didn't perform the Ninja Turtles song but he DID bring Donatello out on stage to dance around with him and we got some pretty great pics of and selfies with him in at the end of the show. Hey, not a bad way to wrap things up, huh?! Oh, and we found a super cool, black, fold out mat like the ones they have at Planet Fitness left behind at the end of the show to boot! :p Obviously, we took that home. I'd been wanting one forever!

One hours of dancing and then waiting in the parking lot til everyone else was lonnnnnnnnnnng gone were over, we were ready to head home. I'm totally amazing at night driving so I drove us 6/7 of the way home, I believe, while Sean worked his butt off on the laptop from the passenger's seat. I saved the tail end of the drive for him though and he took us home to unload the car, make food, and cuddle up in bed with movies to sleep it all off!

Leicester City vs PSG Soccer (Football) Game & Socal Bonfire Road Trip 7/30/16 - 8/1/16

Day 1 - 7/30/16 (Leicester City vs PSG):

We'd been planning to leave Vegas the day prior but I'd had surgery on the 27th and was feeling a little under the weather til this morning. I was okay today though so we ran some last errands, stopped by the gym (Planet Fitness) for a quick workout and shower on the way out, and then started driving to Socal.

Awhile back, I'd found a Groupon deal for a Leicester City vs Paris Saint-Germain soccer match at the StubHub Center (home of LA Galaxy) in Carson, CA (near Long Beach). As Leicester City was Sean's home team and I'd never been been to a professional soccer game before, we'd bought tickets and made the drive out!

Just down the road from the StubHub Center was:

Go Cart World
21830 Recreation Rd
Carson, CA

I can't remember exactly how I'd found out about the place but I'd made myself a note to pay the place a visit and see if they had any dance games. Maybe a friend had mentioned it to me, maybe I'd seen the place online and thought the might,.. Whatever the reason, we were already right in the area today and decided to stop in to check it out! Inside, we found a DDR Extreme machine with a Max 2 banner! There were 4.5 credits left in the machine then so we played through them and managed to get a mini workout. The pads were playable. Not amazing but could've been worse. The 2P side was somewhat better than the 1P. Volume was a little low but they had a machine!! And there was even a Pokestop (spot where you get Pokeballs and such in the new Pokémon Go phone game everyone's been playing lately if your phone's GPS shows you being close enough to it) accessible right from the DDR pads! Free Pokeballs the whole time we were playing. :D We had to head out after DDR but we had a quick look around the rest of the arcade, which was full of games probably almost all from around the era of DDR Extreme (I loved it!), and added the location to ddrfreak before going.

At the StubHub Center, parking was $20 and all of the closest neighborhoods were closed off to event parking. We sure as hell weren't paying so we just drove a little further and found a spot in a quiet neighborhood past the blocked off neighborhoods. Then we went for a jog to the stadium, catching Pokémon and hatching our Pokémon eggs (in-game eggs that you hatch Pokémon out of by covering varying distances of 2k, 5k, or 10k, usually on foot) on the way!

There were lots of Pokéstops and Pokémon to get at the stadium and we got a bit distracted and carried away with that and actually hardly watched the game at all. x.x Oops! We saw a bit though and had lots of fun! We got to see Sean's team and I got the gist of it. Got a bit of exercise running around too so all in all definitely worth it!

After the game, we got back to the car and drove to a nearby Starbucks to do a little work before heading to a Walmart to play some more Pokémon Go and finally get some car sleep.

Day 2 - 7/31/16 (Socal Bonfire & Pokémon Go running):

In the morning, we woke up and headed over to our second big event of the weekend: the annual Socal Bonfire with our old Socal dance game friends. This time, I'd organized it with the help of Tony Padilla but I think he and Ervin and a few others showed up before us to reserve the fire pit and get things going. We'd decided to have this year's bonfire at Huntington Beach just to mix things up but it was pretty much the same setup as Dockweiler. It was $15 to park there but we were staying all day so it was worth it to us to be able to get things from our car as needed. Once we were settled in, there was just way too much fun stuff to do and somehow not nearly enough time! Friends and new faces were coming and going all day as well. We played in the violent, crazy waves with a group of friends for awhile and got a few people to play some frisbee with us. We bbq'd, snacked, chatted, horseplayed, and soaked in the rays. We caught lots of water Pokémon and other Pokémon we don't have much of in Vegas. In fact, Pokémon is how we spent most of the day. We went Pokémon hunting, walking all around with Ervin first and went running EVERYWHERE for HOURS and covering quite a few miles around the area with Edgar later. By the time we made it back to the bonfire the last time, it was dark and everyone had left or was getting ready to leave. Oops! On the bright side, we'd spent a decent amount of time with a lot of people in the earlier part of the day, had gotten tons of exercise, and had gotten to explore the busy pier and all the other cool sights in the area there. I'd forgotten to wear shoes so my feet had been tenderized by the pavement and the lower halves of my legs were DEAD but it was worth it! We spent some last moments hanging around the parking lots with friends who hadn't gone home yet and then finally said our goodbyes and took off.

We did some driving back towards home then and eventually parked and got some sleep, if I remember correctly.. (Writing this two months later)

Day 3 - 8/1/16:

We'd been road tripping so much recently we welcomed any opportunity to break up the monotony of driving so, on the way home, we stopped for caffeine and to get work done at Starbucks and then made lots of stops to catch Pokémon and get Pokéstops on the way.

AZ Def Leppard Concert & Races Trip - 9/20/16 - 9/25/16

Def Leppard, REO Speedwagon, Tesla, 8.2k Run Fore Cancer, Global Energy 10k, Dance Super Station,..

Day 1 - 9/20/16:

We woke up at 8am today to get packed and ready. Amongst other things we'd planned, we'd booked a concert for this evening awhile back. The concert: Def Leppard, REO Speedwagon, and Tesla in Phoenix! We got loaded up and headed out around 2:20pm today to get to the 7pm concert, listening to Def Leppard and REO Speedwagon in the car the whole way there! (Well, actually we spent a short while listening to some Spanish learning lessons we'd downloaded but only for a bit.) When we arrived, parking was free but took an hour so we completely missed Tesla. We made it in time for REO Speedwagon though and got to hear some of their hits before Def Leppard came on to completely dominate the night! We did some quick pre-gaming with brandy we'd brought from home before leaving the car. We'd just bought the cheap tickets for the lawn area at the back but we had more fun there than we possibly could've in any other seat in the place. We had so much more freedom to dance wildly and wrestle there and, of course, we did! The weather was great too! We'd brought a beach towel so I gave Sean a massage and relaxed with him on it til Def Leppard came on and rocked so hard we HAD to get up! So amazing getting to hear some of the most epic songs I'd grown up with live and even getting to see their guitarist shirtless! Lol

After the concert, we were hungry and tired so we found a Love's with a Subway attached, got a sandwich and free cookies (yay receipt surveys!), ate while watching South Park on Sean's laptop, and eventually went to sleep.

Day 2 - 9/21/16:

In the morning, we drove to Starbucks to use some credit we had there from a deal we'd booked and get Sean a tea. We did some work there for quite a few hours before heading out.

Then we got a big, cold drink at QuikTrip and headed to the Goodwill Clearance Center to spend a few hours and only $45 getting LOTS of amazing stuff that was worth way more than that.

Since we were in the area, we drove to the Main Event there in Avondale and used $10 in free credit we had to play PIU Infinity for an hour.

We were super hungry then and the food we'd brought from Vegas just wasn't cutting it so we drove to Tempe, AZ to use a Groupon deal we'd bought for an Indian buffet called Kohinoor Cuisine of India. The place was small and humble with a very down-home-cooking type feel about it but the food was great! We had to buy an additional item to "activate" our all-you-can-eat buffet for two Groupon but we just got some delicious mango drink, somewhere between a juice drink and a smoothie, to share and then filled a plate each with a colorful assortment of entrees - vegetarian, chicken, and more - and a few desserts and sides too! We left feeling absolutely stuffed and satisfied, having tried both familiarly tasty and lots of new things!

We found an openly accessible pool area at a Super 8 Motel around the corner and went for a dip in the pool and hot tub there.

We got a message we'd been waiting for from someone who'd booked a shipment with us through Uship then. We'd brought an exercise bike from Vegas for them and they'd just gotten home for us to drop it off. We headed over to deliver it and then drove to the nearest QuikTrip to watch some South Park reruns on Sean's laptop til we fell asleep in the car.

Day 3 - 9/22/16:

We had a Walmart gift card we'd gotten awhile back as a reward for booking two nights at Choice Hotels locations (like Econo Lodge) so we used that to get various essentials, some new Captain Morgan Cannon Blast bottle (35%, shaped like a cannon ball), and some 2 for $1 egg rolls from the deli section.

Our egg rolls were cold and we needed caffeine so we drove to Ikea to get free tea and coffee, use their microwave, and borrow some outlets and WiFi to get work done. We figured we'd get lots of meatballs there to pay them back next time.

We ended up spending our whole day working at Ikea. We got lots done but when evening came we were absolutely starving! Fortunately, we had another Groupon deal for a place called YZ's Hot Pot & BBQ there in Tempe so we drove over and got a beef hot pot order each! It came with TONS of veggies and meats, including some very strange but yummy seafood items, as well as a side of rice and a scoop of strawberry ice cream for dessert. There was so much that we only finished about half but we took the rest with us for later!

We had some vouchers for free Redbox movie rentals so we picked up a movie called Now You See Me 2 at a Redbox location next to Safeway across the street and then drove a couple of buildings down to a QuikTrip to park for the night, watch the movie, and cuddle up to sleep.

Day 4 - 9/23/16:

In the morning, we ate some of our hot pot leftovers. A little weird for breakfast but very yummy! We donated what we couldn't finish to local animals. Lol

We took the Redbox video back to Safeway then and took care of some work and errands before our first fun activity of the day:

Tilt Studio (at Arizona Mills Mall)
5000 S Arizona Mills Cir
Tempe, AZ

Not too long ago, Tilt Studio had been Gameworks. I guess the location had been leased out to Tilt once Gameworks left? We'd visited several times when it was Gameworks and had even passed it a few times in recent trips since it'd become Tilt but hadn't yet stopped in to see the changes. Well, today was the day! We went in and found that the place still looked pretty much the same but with some different games. As for music games, they had Guitar Hero, some drum game (maybe MTV Drumscape whatever it's called thing?), Grand Piano Keys, DDR Extreme with a replaced screen that was vertically way too small and a Max 2 marquee with a little sign mentioning that it was actually now Extreme, and an up-to-date but offline PIU Prime back to back with, most importantly, Dance Super Station (Dance Master?). The last of these was a super rare machine, at least in the USA, which neither of us had seen anywhere but online before. I'd always wanted to see it though and was so excited to finally get to! Unfortunately, it was out of order when we arrived. It'd just gone down the day before and apparently wouldn't be fixed for at least 3 or 4 days. Wow, what terrible luck! Still, just seeing it was definitely better than nothing and it's lights still came on even though it's screen didn't. Anyway, prices there were really high and without Dance Super Station nothing was worth paying for. A technician gave us a free credit on PIU, which was cool, and we got pics and videos of the place and the games and played a free credit we found left in a Ghostbusters pinball machine. Then we moved on to see what else we could do with our day.

Down the street from there was a QuikTrip. We stopped in and used a couple of phone app deals we had to get 2 roller grill items, a fountain drink, and two cans of energy drink for about $5 total.

Coming and going from Phoenix so much lately, we decided it was probably a good idea to check out more gym options. We got in touch with a gym called Fitness Works who offered us a free day pass to go see one of their many locations in the area. We decided on:

Fitness Works
1668 N Higley Rd
Gilbert, AZ 85234

There, they had a pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, cardio equipment, weights,... And we spent a good couple of hours trying out most of it before using their showers to get fresh and clean again! We only jogged a slow 1 to 1.5 miles or so on the treadmills to loosen our legs up for our upcoming races. We actually spent most of our time in the water, relaxing and practicing some swimming. The pool bottom was pretty grimy and some of the things about the place we're somewhat old, dirty, or damaged but they had lots of cool things and so much to do. Besides, can't complain about a free day!

Finally leaving the gym, we went to packet pickup for our race the next day. It was the Run Fore Cancer race and packet pick up was at:

Road Runner Sports
7077 E Mayo Blvd #150
Phoenix, AZ 85054

Actually, we had upcoming races two days in a row, each with it's packet pickup the day prior and both at the same location. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the second race's packets the same day as the first but we got our Run Fore Cancer packets as well as info on some other upcoming races in the area.

We were a little hungry then so we went to McDonald's to take advantage of their recent "free fry Friday" promotion. We got a burger and free medium fries each.

Across the street from McDonald's, we went to the mall where the Phoenix Monster Bubbles' location had been to use some of the many Monster Bubbles vouchers we'd gotten through Groupon awhile back. Sadly, that Monster bubbles location had closed down, leaving only the one in Mesa. We did find an arcade in the food court called Zap Arcade but they didn't have any music games or much of anything in general really.

Driving to a QuikTrip to spend the night, we stopped by another McDonald's to get more deals. Then we took our junk food with us to QuikTrip, parked up, got a fountain drink refill, and ate and sipped some festive beverages in the car while watching movies on the laptop til sleep time.

Day 5 - 9/24/16 (8.2k Run Fore Cancer):

It was tough but we got up at 6am or so to get ready for our morning race at the Silverado Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ about 20 minutes away. The 8k (or 8.2k, I think?) race was starting at 7:30am so we had to hurry over. There was also a 5k distance that just went around the front 9 holes at the golf course but we were both doing the 8k/5 mile distance around the full 18. We got there, got lined up, and got started! We both ran intentionally semi-easy, comfy races as to not burn ourselves out before the following day's race but I did push a little for the last few hundred meters when I saw the finish line. Sean was there waiting with water for me when I got back. I took a few minutes to catch my breath and then we walked around a bit to collect some post race food a freebies. Around 9am, they announced awards. I'd gotten 1st place in my 5 year age group and Sean had gotten 2nd in his so we each got one of the StartLine Racing trademark medal attachments with our places to add onto the bottom of our finishers medals. Then we snapped some last photos and got out of there! Later though, we had a look online and got our results:

Sean's:
Chip Time: 00:35:46
Overall Finish: 6/124
Gender Finish: 5/46
Age Group Finish: 2/12
Average Pace: 7:09/mile

Mine: Chip Time: 00:41:14
Overall Finish: 16/124
Gender Finish: 4/78
Age Group Finish: 1/14
Average Pace: 8:14/mile

We saw some yard sale signs as we left the race location so we stopped and did some mini shopping at a couple.

We each had a coupon for $2 off anything at Tropical Smoothie so we went there next and got a smoothie each.

It was almost time for the next day's race's packet pickup then but we had other things we wanted to do so we decided to leave our packets til the next morning and instead drove to:

Monster Bubbles (at Superstition Springs Center)
6555 E Southern Ave, Fl 2
Mesa, AZ 85206

We each used one of our tickets for a session of rolling around in their giant inflatable bubble balls there. Second time there and still a kind of fun way to get sweaty in minutes! Lol

There was another Zap Arcade location in that mall as well but their game selection wasn't really any better than the previous one.

Driving back to Goodwill Clearance Center for another few hours, we stopped in Tilt Studio again on the way just to check the hadn't yet fixed Dance Super Station. They hadn't. :(

So we got to Goodwill, did another few hours of shopping, and left with a big bag of awesome stuff including a DS, an Atari, and TONS more for only $23 total!

We refueled ourselves at QuikTrip with $1 sausages and a big drink refill then before driving across the street to Travelers Inn to revisit their pool and hot tub. There was a Mexican guy in the hot tub when we got there so we had a good chat with him while enjoying the water til Sean and I finally had to get going to:

Sanctum of Horror
6555 E Southern Ave
Mesa, AZ

We had a Groupon I'd bought for the place and, though it was still September, I figured it was never too early to start celebrating Halloween! We drove over, had a quick couple of shots each, and went to see how badly they could scare us at the two haunted houses there! They did a pretty decent job with one and an average job with the other but we were happy. I was screaming my head off and Sean was laughing at me the whole time! Lol

We decided to keep the party going after that so we drove to a QuikTrip to watch some Red Dwarf on the laptop while eating car food and sipping some more alcohol til we finally decided to call it a night.

Day 6 - 9/25/16 (Global Energy 10k):

Reluctantly, we got up at 5:20am to get dressed and ready for yet another race. This time, it was the Global Energy 10k. We were tired and, unsurprisingly, I had a headache but it was alright. Worth it!

So we made our way to:

Scottsdale Sports Complex
8081 E Princess Dr
Scottsdale, AZ

There, we got to the start line (where StartLine Racing was setup to do the timing again), smiled for a few cameras at thus much bigger race today, wished each other luck, and started running at 7am. There was also a 3k distance there that I'd wanted to do but it was really just a fun run/walk and not meant to be competitive so we were both in the 10k. The last race had a handful of small, mild hills but this one was a little tougher. Not super steep for any extended time but I guess it could be referred to as undulating, seemingly particularly between mile 4 and 5. I took the race a bit easy but still didn't do too badly. There were only prizes for top 3 overall in each gender (no age groups or anything else) but there were far too many people for us to win anyway. Nevertheless, we both did alright, got cool finisher's medals, got lots of bread-related and other freebies (as the race was sponsored by Bimbo), and got to be a part of another Guinness World Record! The race was, in fact, being run in 20-something cities on the same day in an attempt to break the record for the most number of cities participating in one single race on one single day which they successfully accomplished! Very cool. Here are Sean's and my results:

Sean's:
Chip Time: 00:43:41
Overall Finish: 26/487
Gender Finish: 23/201
Average Pace: 7:02/mile

Mine:
Chip Time: 00:52:03
Overall Finish: 74/487
Gender Finish: 22/286
Average Pace: 8:23/mile

Right after we finished the race, we managed to get a hold of another Uship customer about a chair we needed to pick up. They said we could get it then so we headed to the pick up location and loaded it up.

Driving away, we saw signs for more yard sales and stopped to have a look and get some goodies.

It was time to start heading home then but on the way out we made a couple last stops, first at a QuikTrip for some last sausages and drink refills and then at a place near Phoenix Zoo. At the second of these, we did a mini hike up to something called Hole-in-the-Rock, where we got great views, pics, and vids of the awesome surroundings and overlooking the city. Then we walked over to see some little lakes/ponds there. It was so peaceful and such a nice day! There were fish in the water, ducks swimming and resting in nearby shade, picnic benches surrounding the water.. Would definitely an awesome place for a picnic sometime!

Aside from getting gas at Maverik in Kingman, as usual, we didn't stop again until we reached Chloride, AZ. I'd been wanting to stop and see the little community of 352 people for a long time but hadn't had time til now. Well, after driving several miles from the highway to get to it, I wasn't disappointed! There were lots of random things to see in the tiny place, namely the oddly decorated homes, buildings, belongings, and one particular vehicle that really stood out. I didn't see a gas station there at all but Sean thought he spotted a cafe. It was mostly homes there but there were a couple of little shops selling antiques and miscellaneous as well as a post office and a few other buildings. A few people shouted for us to stop and have a look around. Cute place though and we'd definitely have to go back sometime, maybe when they do one of the festivals there that we'd seen flyers for. On the way out, we spotted a tarantula crossing the street! It was the first wild tarantula Sean had seen. I'd only seen two before, both in Oklahoma. We pulled over for a look. The cute, scrawny thing was missing two limbs. :( Sean had to really talk me out of taking it home and feeding it up. Lol While looking at the tarantula, a guy living in the closest house mentioned to us that they get tarantulas walking around there all the time, helping them keep bug populations there under control. So cool!

When we got to Lake Mead, we stopped at the Hoover Dam lodge for some free Coke. They'd opened up a big room with lots of cool arcade games, a big ticket redemption counter, pool tables, a bar, and slot machines. No music games there but it still looked like a pretty fun place to visit sometime when we just needed a mini break from Vegas.

We finnnnally made it home just after that and got rested and ready for our next trip a couple of days later.

Ultimate Wine Run 5k & Cali Family Trip 8/27/16 - 9/2/16

Day 1 - 8/27/16 (The Ultimate Wine Run):

Sean and I had signed up for The Ultimate Wine Run 5k at Lake Las Vegas awhile back. We got our race packets yesterday AS WELL AS OUR MEDALS. (Yes, they gave the medals in advance at packet pickup, which kinda killed the motivation imo!) Today, we showed up to run at Lake Las Vegas. Parking was $15 ($10 in advance) but we refused to pay and wound up parking a couple of miles from the start, having to power walk, and almost missing the start of the race because of it. Lol We got to the start just in time though! The race was extremely "undulating", as I've heard so many people say lately, and totally owned me. Sean had decided to run with me though and kept me motivated while playing Pokémon Go. Yes, he was playing Pokémon Go WHILE RUNNING WITH ME. I was absolutely dying and he was just casually catching Pidgeys and even a Tauros! Hahaha At the end of the race, I took a little time to recover before we got our cups of finish line wine and tried riding a mechanical bull they had there. Then they did a raffle and a few other things and Sean managed to win a bottle of wine in one of their little side events! They didn't have any placement prizes or even timing chips as it was a fun run but a bottle of wine was plenty to show for our efforts!

Heading back into Vegas after the wine run, we stopped by Danny's parents house where we'd been invited to Danny's mom and brother's birthday party. We hung out and ate with them for a good couple of hours til we finally had to head home and get ready to go out of town.

Sean and I had gotten a booking through Uship to transport someone's flatscreen TV from Vegas to Berkeley, CA. We'd already picked up the TV. Now it was time to load it up, pack, and start our long road trip overnight! Once we were ready to go, we buckled in and I drove us up while Sean got lots of work done in the car.

Day 2 - 8/28/16:

We pulled into Merced around 8:20am, I think it was, and met my mom and youngest siblings Juliet and Jarod at the Burger King on Childs Ave for some quick breakfast. We couldn't stay too long though since we still had obligations northwest of there.

We continued to Berkeley after that to drop the TV off and then got in touch with my sister Liz. She and her husband Kyle were home at the time so we headed over to their place. Liz is taking classes at the City College of San Francisco now and when we arrived she was working on homework. Kyle was watching TV on the couch so Sean joined him while I went to nerd out with Liz. She was working on Trigonometry at the time. I couldn't believe it! She's a smart girl but I never imagined her being motivated to learn any math beyond maybe algebra. I couldn't help but grin watching her find function inverses and whatnot. Math had always been my number one subject and one of the things I'd prided myself on most growing up. It'd been about a decade since I'd done any serious math though and I'd never taken a trig class. (Instead, I'd skipped from geometry to calculus and continued through classes as they were presented, assuming I'd pick trig up somewhere along the way.) Looking at Liz's work, I was absolutely clueless! It turns out I had learned what she was covering once upon a time and it came back to me pretty quickly as we got into it together but it took a couple of minutes for me to get up to speed with each concept as I was presented with it and I was absolutely ecstatic and thoroughly impressed when Liz was tutoring ME, explaining to ME how to solve these problems! I'm not cocky about my past knowledge at all but I dedicated so much to my education growing up and never saw Liz's interest in certain subjects such as math so to see her not only attempt it but master it this way was just incredible and so heartwarming. Anyway, we ended up getting through nearly all of her math homework and even spending some time Google'ing silly math t-shirt jokes for awhile til she had to get ready and head to work.

Once it was just Sean, Kyle, and me, we decided to get out of the house and walk to a semi-run-down, single hoop basketball court a block or two away where Kyle's taken to playing basketball lately. Sean and I were dead tired but staying vertical was the only way to keep us awake so we went and played for a bit. A neighborhood kid even came and played with us for a bit. We caught some Pokémon while out too. Pretty successful excursion, really! :D

Sean and I finally had to get a nap in when we got back to the apartment so we crashed on the couch for a few hours. Then we hung out with Kyle til Liz got home, went out to stop by a liquor store, got lots of Pokestops on the way, hung out back at the apartment, watched Death Proof, had some drinks, ate, and eventually called it a night.

Day 3 - 8/29/16:

According to Liz, Kyle never misses work (though I assume sick days are an exception?) but in the morning he slept in and was late. He ended up just not going so my sister decided to skip school and stay home as well. I felt somewhat personally responsible but couldn't do much other than get out of their hair towards the end of our trip and decide not to come back too frequently. Lol

So we all spent most of the day in the apartment but finally left in the late afternoon, I believe it was, headed to a sandwich shop called Little Lucca in Burlingame for lunch. There, we got HUGE, ridiculously delicious sandwiches for maybe $10 each. Sounds like a lot but each sandwich fed at least two people. We didn't eat our sandwiches there though. Kyle took us to a pretty park nearby instead so we could eat and do some Pokémon hunting!

Later, Kyle drove us up through and around a hilltop neighborhood with nice views and expensive houses.

Then we went to a mall not far away for a little shopping. Sean and Liz bought an awesome Harley Quinn hat for me. Totally not worth the $20 they spent but SUPER awesome. Then we got a Sharks hat as a going away gift for Kyle's soon to be former boss, a smoothie to share, and some Asian snacks and bits.

Back at the apartment a little later, we snacked and watched some movies before finally going to sleep.

Day 4 - 8/30/16:

Kyle had work in the morning but Liz was free so we hung out with her all day. We made chocolate chip pancakes with a side of peaches for "breakfast". (It was probably after lunch time at the time.)

Eventually, we made it out of the apartment and went to get groceries at Food Maxx. While putting the groceries away not long after getting back to the apartment, Kyle got home from work. Quinn was already there with a friend of his.

Liz, Sean, and I went to the pool and hot tub for a bit then. The pool was super cold but we kinda got used to it and had a lot of fun playing around together in it before thawing out again in the hot tub.

We caught a few Pokémon including a Tauros after that.

Kyle and Liz had both made us food since we'd arrived. Sean and I had brought snacks and quick bites but it just wasn't the same. Accordingly, we'd picked up ingredients at Food Maxx and promised to make a shepherds pie to share. Sean spearheaded the operation, of course, but Liz and I helped too. In the end, it was a big success! Everyone loved it - Kyle, Liz, Quinn, Quinn's friend, me. Good job, Sean!!

After dinner, we all sat around sipping beverages and watching stuff til it was time to sleep.

Day 5 - 8/31/16:

Liz had to go to school today but Sean, Kyle, and I eventually got the Bart to downtown to meet her between classes, catching Pokémon along the way and throughout the day.

Liz had made a list of tons of exciting things to do. She didn't have a lot of free time but she made good use of the time she did have with us.

She took us to Nordstrom cafe where we shared a couple of bowls of lobster bisque soup, an extremely delicious soup, some kind of lemonade that she ordered, tea that Sean ordered, and some entree that Kyle ordered. Everything was so good! Nice view too! Sean and I had been there once before with Kristina Proctor and Chris Danford but it'd been awhile!

Liz knew all the most visually appealing spots in the city! She took us up a hotel where we had amazing city views looking out over the city from a restaurant window. She took us to pretty, old brick church with an awesome interior and super high ceiling. Then we went walking around near the Metreon catching lots of Pokémon. By the end of the day, Sean and I probably had over 20 Tauros between us!

Liz had to get back to class at 6pm but Sean, Kyle, and I stuck around the area to wait for her to finish. While waiting, we got alcohol from a liquor store nearby and drank it slyly in an alleyway like homeless people, sharing it out of a brown paper bag and chasing it with an energy drink I'd brought. Lol We had a fun buzz then which we enjoyed while wandering through the mall nearby. We got samples there and even scored a free pretzel each at Wetzel's Pretzels! We took our pretzels for a walk, shared a little with the countless pigeons we found outside, and eventually wound up at a place called Top of the Mark. My sister had actually recommended we go there just before sunset to enjoy another wonderful lookout point. The place was far too fancy for any of us but we did manage to make it up and get some pics while enjoying another awesome view! We got more liquor and soda from a shop just a minute down the street from there and took it for a walk to Union Square where we drank and caught Pokémon til it was time for Liz to get out of class. Then we walked to her school and met her at the exit!

Liz had parked semi-close to there so we drove us all home, stopping to grab more liquor on the way. Then we all played fun drinking games like King's Cup and Ride the Bus on the balcony together til we were all pretty done!

Day 6 - 9/1/16:

Kyle had to work in the morning but he was really in no condition to go. To make matters worse, his truck battery was dead and his truck was parked in a no parking after 7am zone. We were all drunk still but had to get up and help sort things out. Kyle took Liz's Audi to get to work and Sean, Liz, and I tried to jump Kyle's truck with our Prius so we could move it to a better parking spot. Unfortunately, the Prius refused to jump the truck. We tried to push the truck next but it was kinda stuck on the curb and we didn't have much luck with that either. Kyle had forgotten his work boots though so he had to come back anyway. The rest of us waited at his truck til he arrived and then helped jump the truck with the Audi.

Back at the apartment, Sean and I made omelet and sausages for everyone. Then we got a little more sleep before it was finally time for us to head out. We said our goodbyes and then went to kill some time til our next Uship gig.

Our first destination was Food Maxx. We got some energy drink there and then continued to a boba shop we'd found on Google called Milk and Honey Cafe. I got the BIGGEST cup of boba smoothie I'd EVER seen there for $5.25. So yummy and really good value! We took the drinks to Horseshoe Lake to do more Pokémon hunting while enjoying the outdoors then. We walked around, took in the sun and sights, relaxed on a park bench.. When it started getting a little chilly, we finally left and found a Starbucks for some WiFi.

When the time came, we made the short drive to a place called Foster City to get our next Uship item: a Coke vending machine! We had to pay a $5 toll to get over the bridge but it was a lot faster than driving all the way around the water. We got a funny look and some skepticism when we showed up to load the Coke machine into our Prius but I'd checked the measurements and it fit in the car perfectly. It was heavy as shit and took 3 adults including Sean, the guy we were picking up from, and me to load it but once it was in it was no problem!

We started south to drop off the Coke machine then, stopping in Merced to visit family again along the way! We got some gas and Taco Bell in Manteca before getting to Merced shortly thereafter. Then we met my family at their friend Paul's house where we all hung out, snacked, and exchanged more gifts and things we had for each other.

When it started getting late, Sean and I said our goodbyes and got back on the road to Paramount, CA.

Day 7 - 9/2/16:

We finally made it to Paramount early in the morning. It was too early to drop off the Coke machine though so we parked at at Food 4 Less and got some sleep in the car.

It was 1pm when we woke up. We used some McDonald's Friday deal they've been offering lately to get free medium fries with any purchase and got a cheap sandwich and medium fries each. Our bodies weren't happy with that but at least we weren't hungry.

Then we dropped the Coke machine off in Paramount, CA and got paid $150.32 after fees for doing it!

We needed to get some work done then so we went to a Starbucks for a but to do that. Then we got some energy drinks at a grocery store and started towards home. Traffic was awful though so we stopped at an Ikea for a break. We got a meal with LOTS of extra meatballs (20 total!) plus free coffee and tea and got some more work done while trying to wait out the traffic.

Once Ikea closed at 9pm, we tried driving again but traffic was literally the worst we'd EVER seen by far on account of Labor Day weekend. In fact, we later found out it'd made the news.

We decided to stop again at Food 4 Less to get some food and got some great deals there!

On the road again after that, where there were back or side roads, those were completely full of unmoving traffic as well. At one point as we were driving on the 15 freeway towards Vegas, roads to each side of us that we didn't even know existed were lit up with cars driving 0 to 15 miles per hour. We tried to take side roads whenever possible but much of the trip to Vegas only seemed doable from one major freeway. It was like trying to get to EDC except that it lasted several times longer. We even tried taking a break at a rest area but that was so busy with everyone else who'd given up that there was no point in even trying to stop and use a restroom. It was a big rest area but there were probably 2 or 3 times as many vehicles there as there were parking spaces and drivers were forced to park illegally in no parking zones all around the lot because of it. Even when we finally made it to Primm, just over half an hour from Vegas in normal traffic, we saw all the gas stations and parking lots there completely full of drivers who'd just given up. We'd had to make a lot of stops to try and wait the traffic out and didn't get back to Vegas until TWELVE HOURS after we'd initially started driving, attempting to get home. It was 4:30am when we got to our driveway. We managed to crawl in the house with all our things, make "dinner", bath, and cuddle up with a movie to get some rest but it was probably going to take a couple of weeks to recover before trying to leave town on another roadtrip.
